Trying to think outside the box here and would like an opinion.
I own an H2S and would like to buy and use the cutter module. If I understand correctly, I would need to calibrate the Birdseye camera which requires the laser cutter module. Is this a one time calibration?
If so, would borrowing someone’s laser module allow me to install and calibrate the Birdseye camera? And would this even work meaning can the H2S use a Birdseye camera if it did not originally come with one?
Also I understand that you can use the cutter module without the Birdseye camera. They have not released a firmware update to calibrate the camera for alignment purposes and I would prefer not to wait and hope that they eventually do, especially since there is no real ETA.
I will be buying the cutter module kit and the Birdseye camera kit. I am just trying to do some research beforehand.
It may work but I doubt simply installing the laser module will be enough for a non-laser H2D to launch the calibration if the firmware does not see it as being a laser H2D containing at least the safety components it requires like the front door and the emergency switch at least and may be more.
But if you have access to a laser module, try it and let us know.
After thinking it through and realizing all the extra safety stuff that’s including on the laser version of the H2S I think you’re right. I guess I will keep an eye on firmware and hope Bambu comes up with a good solution eventually. Thank you
Still, purchase the cutting module while the black friday sale is still on, it ends in 7hrs…
The cutting module works without the bird-eye camera. The BE camera will add some capabilities but you can do a lot of things now even without it.
The cutting module works very well without the birds view camera.
Where I could see a benefit in the camera is when you want to use organic shaped leftover pieces, but otherwise you don’t really miss much.
Most other conventional plotters don’t have a camera either.

Yeah have a valid point, probably should just grab one while it’s on sale and not worry too much. I guess it really isn’t THAT big of a deal if it’s not even needed like you said. Thank you for your reply.
Yes it’s really not a big deal.
If you do print and cut for things like sticker it will print marker on the paper which the toolhead camera defects for alignment.
If you cut vinyl sheets, fabric or such stuff you usually align it to the grid on the cutting mat.
I’ve inquired to support recently as well about this and they claim it’s going to be a few updates away. It would be really handy for placing objects on already cut material.
Ok that’s what I was actually looking at trying to do is make custom stickers for my business. Sounds like if I can get it to work like that I’d be ok. Appreciate that!

Exactly, according to Bambu, the camera isn’t necessary for the retrofit cutting module.
The laser module can’t be calibrated at all without the safety precautions (door, side glass), as the camera checks these.
Furthermore, there are different firmware versions for the lasers. I have both charger modules, and every time I switch between them, the firmware is updated and calibrated.
