Bridging Issues

I have a part with some holes counterbored from the underside. I’ve made many hundreds of these sliced in S3D and the bridging behaved as shown. The bridges worked really well, avoiding the need for support material. Slicing the same model (well, a STEP of the same model) in Bambu Studio comes out as shown. In this case, it tries to print the darker blue ring THEN the bridge, so it all falls down. Coincidentally, I’ve run into this again on something else… I want to add captive nuts to a design, but when the extruder goes over for the next layer, it’s trying to do the same again - add rings in the centre THEN bridge them. I can’t sort this by adding support.

Any suggestions as to how I can fix this?

i saw a video recently talking about a design technique to trick the slicer into making the hole better.

3D Print Floating Holes Without Support! (With This One Weird Trick :stuck_out_tongue: ) - YouTube

i wish that the slicer would just know what to do but this may help in the meanwhile

That’s a really good call - I think now you mention it, Maker’s Muse showed something similar recently too.

I’ll give it a try!
