Hi, I’m new to these forums. I found an issue that I couldn’t find any information about online so decided to post :
I’m using Bambu Studio 2.1.1.52 on Windows 11.
With multiple objects on a plate, when a brim is selected for one individual object, all supports (of all objects) on the same plate have a brim generated when slicing. This seems unwanted behavior, possibly a bug?
I attached two screenshots to illustrate. Firstly the sliced plate without the brimmed object, and secondly the the slicing result after introducing one brimmed object.
I also tested this on other plates, and in other files. Same result.
Is this a known issue, and if so, is there a workaround for this so I can just have a brim around one object without generating brims around all supports on the same plate?
The slicer is working as intended. It detected that the object you’re pointing to is likely to experience shear forces, so it added a brim. Looking at your model, I’d agree - it appears top-heavy, and a brim is a good idea.
That said, you can disable brims on a per-object basis in the Objects menu. This allows you to customize slicer behavior for individual parts. But be warned: if you disable the brim and the part detaches mid-print, you could end up with a pile of spaghetti.
Brims are a substitute for glue. If you’re trying to preserve a clean bottom surface and find the brim unnecessary, you can experiment. If the part detaches, just apply a bit of glue stick to the build plate for extra adhesion.
@Olias Thanks for the quick reply! Maybe my explanation wasn’t too clear: I realize the brims are to secure an object more securely to the buildplate. The issue I’m having is that when I add a brim to a single object in object mode (like you illustrated), Bambu Studio also adds brims to any support structures that happen to be on the same buildplate. I think this is an unwanted slicer behaviour?
See my second screenshot, where it sliced brims to all the tree support bases attached to the large 8 sided ringlike object (where the other arrows are pointing). Those tree supports shouldn’t have all those brims (and don’t in the first screenshot). It somehow happens automatically when I give the other (tall topheavy) object a brim, suddenly those tree supports get brims as well.
I hope it makes sense what I’m writing. If not I’ll try to make some clearer screenshots.
