Hi everyone, ![]()
I wanted to share something that has been on my mind for a while now, inspired by the amazing work being done in Augsburg with charity 3D printing for kids in pediatric oncology.
First, I want to be clear and respectful, this idea is inspired by @JamesDaRock’s project, but it is completely independent. I’m working toward building something local here in Sydney, with its own direction, identity, and community.
In Sydney, I am focusing on the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network which includes Westmead and Randwick Children’s Hospital, and Bear Cottage.
As somebody who had been to the Emergency Department more times than I could count, being in the hospital can be very isolated, but what cheered me up was the medical staff and what they gave me, a small bear, it might not seem like much but to me it felt like a lot.
That’s honestly what pushed me to take this seriously.
My goal isn’t recognition, it’s to create something meaningful. Something that can bring even a small amount of comfort to kids who are going through difficult times.
Right now, I’m in the early stages, figuring out how to approach this properly so it’s done with respect, transparency, and care.
For those wondering what we I need from the community is your MakerWorld Designs, that can help cheer those who are terminally ill up, if you don’t have designs, please respond and add a little message for either the children or the parents.
The focus will be:
-
A local Sydney-based effort
-
Community-driven support
-
Clear separation from the original project
-
Keeping the purpose centered on helping kids
To note, I did consult Pascal before I did do anything just to see if he was fine with it and if it would be appropriate.
I’ll share updates as things progress.
God bless,
Shadows
