Bringing Community-Driven Charity 3D Printing to Sydney

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share something that has been on my mind for a while now, inspired by the amazing work being done in Augsburg with charity 3D printing for kids in pediatric oncology.

First, I want to be clear and respectful, this idea is inspired by @JamesDaRock’s project, but it is completely independent. I’m working toward building something local here in Sydney, with its own direction, identity, and community.

In Sydney, I am focusing on the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network which includes Westmead and Randwick Children’s Hospital, and Bear Cottage.

As somebody who had been to the Emergency Department more times than I could count, being in the hospital can be very isolated, but what cheered me up was the medical staff and what they gave me, a small bear, it might not seem like much but to me it felt like a lot.

That’s honestly what pushed me to take this seriously.

My goal isn’t recognition, it’s to create something meaningful. Something that can bring even a small amount of comfort to kids who are going through difficult times.

Right now, I’m in the early stages, figuring out how to approach this properly so it’s done with respect, transparency, and care.

For those wondering what we I need from the community is your MakerWorld Designs, that can help cheer those who are terminally ill up, if you don’t have designs, please respond and add a little message for either the children or the parents.

The focus will be:

  • A local Sydney-based effort

  • Community-driven support

  • Clear separation from the original project

  • Keeping the purpose centered on helping kids

To note, I did consult Pascal before I did do anything just to see if he was fine with it and if it would be appropriate.

I’ll share updates as things progress.

God bless,

Shadows

Hey,

I really appreciate the way you approached this and how clearly you separated your project while still giving proper credit.

Wishing you all the best with building this locally — take your time and do it right.

If you ever need input along the way, you know where to find me.

And who knows — maybe I should start considering Sydney as a vacation destination someday :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Pascal,

Thank you so much for your support, assistance and guidance on what I should do, I can’t even describe how beautiful that gesture was.

I hope I can grow this and to help those children who are feeling lonely in the Hospital, I was one of them, thank you once again for everything you have done to support me, slowly but surely what both of us are doing can help them feel slightly better.

P.S Sydney is beautiful during Mid-Spring :))

Vielen Dank, @JamesDaRock

Hi all,

If you have a design that could help bring a small moment of joy to a child, please consider contributing it. Even the smallest things can make a big difference.

For those who don’t have a design, you can still contribute by either sending me a message or responding to this message for a message to either the parent or child.

Though we haven’t gotten many contributions yet, I am hopeful that this will be successful, and children will be happy that they have something they can hold onto for life.

As somebody who has been in the hospital more times than I could count, a small bear that the Nurse gave to me made me feel better, a glimpse of hope.

Pascal has inspired me deeply and is more than happy to hear about what I am doing in Sydney.

Hope to hear from some of you soon,

Thanks,

Shadows.

It’s great to see this initiative from Pascal gaining more traction. As I mentioned in a PM, you’re welcome to use any of my models for your project—no attribution or anything else required for your Sydney project.

Hi John,

Thank you so much for contributing again, I truly appreciate your continued support and involvement. It really means a lot to see people coming back and staying committed to what we’re building together.

I’m more than happy to see everything starting to take off, and it’s exciting to watch the progress we’re making. Your contribution is a big part of that, so thank you again.

Cheers, :victory_hand:

Hey, it’s nice to see that JamesDaRock’s idea inspired you and that you want to turn it into your own project. The same offer I already made to JamesDaRock also applies to you and your project.

Maybe there’s something among my models that could be meaningfully integrated into your project and make a small contribution to your goal.

Hey,

Thank you, I really appreciate that a lot. It’s great to hear that the same support you offered to James is extended here as well.

I’d definitely be interested in taking a look at your models and seeing if there’s something that could fit into the project and add value.

Once again, I appreciate you contributing and I’ll keep you updated.

Thanks again for reaching out and offering to contribute.

Cheers, :victory_hand:

Shadows,

These are nice projects, and I’m glad if I can help people with my designs. As long as they are given away for free to ill children in the hospital, you can use my models, too.

Best regards,
DrJones

Hi DrJones,

Thank you very much, I really appreciate your generosity and willingness to help.

Your designs are fantastic, and it means a lot that you’re happy for them to be used to help bring a little joy to children in hospitals. I can assure you they will only be used for that purpose and given freely to the kids.

Thank you again for supporting something like this. Contributions like yours can make a real difference.

Although I don’t make models specifically for children, I can offer my tealight lanterns (the same ones I offered to Pascal)

If you find them suitable, feel free to use them for this project

Hi,

Thank you very much for offering those. I really appreciate your generosity.

The lanterns look wonderful, and I think designs like these could definitely help create a warm and comforting atmosphere for children. I’ll make sure they’re used appropriately and only as part of bringing small moments of joy to kids in the hospital.

When I first posted this, it was a ghost town, but step by step, we are making great progress.

Thanks again for being willing to contribute to something like this; it really means a lot.

Cheers, :crossed_fingers:

Hi everyone!

First of all, I’d like to thank everybody who has contributed to this, whether it be a message for the parents or children, or allowing us to use one of your designs. Every contribution we get will help somebody in need. Second on the agenda is once again thanking @JamesDaRock for inspiring me to start this initiative, I encourage everyone to have a look at it as well. (Link Below)

For those who contributed, your kindness won’t go unseen. I’ll be working something out to ensure those who contributed to this cause will receive or be displayed.

Finally, thanks to those who have contributed, printing will start as of Wednesday, and the first box will be sent off sometime this or next week.

God bless everyone, and thank you for contributing to this cause.

Cheers, :crossed_fingers:
