Hello everybody and of course @MakerWorld !
Anyone else feels like a broacast feature would be amazing for the message section also to combine with the new community feature?
Let’s tell the thruth…the community is becoming a pitt of spam, boost for boost requests, follow for follow requests and so on.
Wouldn’t be amazing if we could add a broadcast for a group of people (followers of course) to send links for important posts that we share in community page and that now get lost in that pile of “spam”?
For example we just shared a poll that might be very interesting for our followers but it would be amazing if we could let them know sending a broadcast message with the link to said poll.
what do you think?
It has been asked for several times by others, myself included.
It would require additional consents to be added as the act of following someone would be legally insufficient to remain legal in many countries.
You mean that might be illegal to use the internal messages of Makerworld to send a private message to the people already following our page willingly (to a group of people in broadcast)?
That person wouldn’t see the message and replies of the others.
Exactly as you do with whatsapp… cc in email, etc
Not how you have characterised it.
If you wish to send marketing communications from one person to one or more others it comes under GDPR and more specifically PECR in the EU and the U.K. for consent, in the US the CanSPAM act comes into play, which despite its annoying you can default, requires a means to remove consent.
Any unsolicited messages sent using a service to promote anything or sell something are considered marketing and requires consent.
Choosing to follow an individual agrees to that act, it does not include any agreement to receive communications which requires legal specific consent to receive messages to be lawful.
You will notice the many report mechanisms with NW that allow you to report SPAM as they are required to act on it.
WhatsApp is a messaging platform and the consents required are obtained by the platform and the individual choosing to accept messages by people they do not know.
They laws are not there to stifle communication, simply to make it a consensual interaction.
I designed and created a couple of email marketing server software solutions back 24 years ago, in its infancy. I added in consent back then as I also lectured in the DPA (the previous version of the GDPR). When I sold the service to clients they were always eager to share their messages with as many people as possible, often times those they had never interacted with. When I asked them what they did when they received such messages they all proudly told me how they deleted them.
There is a huge difference between messaging those who wish to hear from you and chose to do so and those who do not. Simply agreeing to follow someone in NW gives that user the opportunity to view models those people have uploaded in a single location, nothing more.
I am that type of person ahahaah!
This could be solved with a button made by makerworld to remove you from the broadcast maybe…
Anyway I believe noone of the one that boosted one of the models I am making and that are eager to get info on the next one of the same kind I’ll upload would try to be removed from this kind of broadcast. But I agree that many other would abuse of this feature sending spam to their followers. These followers would unfollow them and the question is solved.
Thought of a true marketing mind! That’s why we need consent laws on messages. I boosted your model because it’s cool and deserved a boost, not because I want to hear about amazing new thing. Same goes for likes, collects and even follows - I follow designers I want to see models (and with introduction of community - community posts) at my leisure and at the time of my choice.
I don’t even like DMs but I’m willing to accept them since barrier to entry is high enough.
Thanks for boosting it if you did!
So you don’t agree that would be a good idea to find a way to let people know that there is a poll on something they might be interested?
I am not seeing a good use of the community at the moment.
I barely go there and always find 90% of spam
I don’t think you are reading what is being written.
Does this sound like a no?
Also not a no.
Yet again, not a no.
What I said in detail and @Johnny_Bit added to says, the idea is useful for THOSE WHO CONSENT.
That isn’t a no, it is a let those choose who wish to have messages pushed at them, rather than those who prefer to pull information at their pace.
If you push information to people who do not want it, you risk losing them entirely rather than gaining additional people you will push everyone available.
I think you mean a consent option.
The circle of life (I am holding up a baby lion right now).
Yes, I am reading, of course!
Usually you are a little bit less harsh.
I am not english mother tongue so I might miss some meaning or words once in a while.
I apologize!
I prefer the cheerful you btw!
It came across as you ignored what others said and you put words in our mouths.
I believed I had clearly explained the legal issue and you implied they were trivial. You followed this up with a second person.
It annoyed me. Consent is a big deal for me. I used to lecture on it and strongly support it.
I am normally a little less harsh, yes.
No need, we are good.
My brain is being crushed by a tumour, I often miss words.
No, no! I didn’t imply they were trivial, at all.
Actually the explanation was interesting, I just understood I didn’t explain myself clearly on the first words I posted on the post and here I was trying to explain what I meant
“You mean that might be illegal to use the internal messages of Makerworld to send a private message to the people already following our page willingly (to a group of people in broadcast)?
That person wouldn’t see the message and replies of the others.
Exactly as you do with whatsapp… cc in email, etc”
I am not really aware of all the implication of this legal field so I was genuinely curious.
Anyway, really sorry for you illness!
