BS unexpectedly adds interior color in multicolor print

I’m trying to print the part shown below, and I can’t figure out why bambu studio seems to be putting my white color in the interior of the part and on a lower layer than necessary. The question mark is proud of the face of the block and in my modeling software it all looks like one solid piece. This isn’t a huge deal because it’s such a small print, but I’d like to understand why BS is doing this. It should really only be one material change once it gets to the question mark printing and then be done, instead I have three.

Not sure why it does it, I think it might have to do with how thin the layer is and a minimum thickness for colours? But if you want a single colour change the best way to accomplish that is (right?)click on the layer slider and add a colour change for that layer

Edit: another way to accomplish this with an extra white question mark layer embedded in the yellow might be too model the part with two bodies and assign each a different colour. Then you can have the question mark one layer deeper inside a cutout.

You can also just slightly tweak the (first) layer height to see if that solves the issue
