i have my new H2S Combo for 2 weeks now and i recognized what seems to be a strange behavior, i thought the buffer should hardly ever move except in starts and stops but it constantly clicks … so the filemant in the AMS is standing still, the extruder uses the buffer until its empty, and than the AMS pushes the filament with full speed until the buffer is full again (which results in a click sound everytime the buffer gets pushed in its end position by the ams) and than this loops, resulting in a buffer clicking nearly every 1 or 2 seconds depending on the printing speed … seems the AMS feeding speed and the Extruder feeding speed are not synchronized by any means.
is this normal or is there something broken on my side
Hi Mantus, yes, this is normal. The buffer is constantly moving during prints, doing its buffering thing. This way the AMS feed rate doesn’t have to exactly match the usage/flow rate.
Personally I can’t really hear the clicking on my H2C over the other printing noises and fans in the room, but I’ve certainly seen mention of that here. Maybe some buffers are louder than others, or my hearing at that frequency isn’t what it used to be… I suppose it’s possible that a loud buffer could indicate some mechanical issue… but as long as it keeps feeding the filament, sounds like it’s working.
its not just moving, its constantly slamming from empty to full, and if you look at the AMS its stopping, feeding full speed, stopping, feeding full speed … nothing in between … this is really normal?

If you print slower then it won’t bang around so much… Also the quality improves!
The clicking sounds a bit extreme perhaps if it’s that noticeable over the other noises. Hard to say w/out hearing it really, sound levels at various frequencies can be quite subjective depending on the ear(s). I guess I’d check to make sure the PTFE tubes are inserted all the way from both ends (especially through the back), and that the tube paths from AMS to printer are smooth (no sharp bends and such).
