Burnt plastic on nozzle

While replacing my nozzle, I noticed it was very dirty. What’s the best method to clean a dirty nozzle?

I’ve read about the boiling method and seen others use a blowtorch to heat and clean the nozzle. However, I’d prefer to avoid using a blowtorch, as I’m concerned it might reduce the hardness of my hardened steel nozzle.

What would be your preferred method to clean something like this?

A craft knife or something similar, tried a blow torch and it did just that.

I scrape with knife and/or use a small brass brush. Even scraping with the back side of a craft knife is effective if you do not want to dull the cutting edge.

Large thick blobs can be softened with a small butane torch. There is no need to heat the nozzle to the point that the steel softens - stay below normal operating temperatures.

Heat the nozzle to 200ºC and wipe with a folded paper towel in a fast movement.

Depending on what you print with, acetone will soften PLA but I would strip it down to just the metal hot end first, no plastic attached and just soak the nozzle portion. Or if the chipping off is not working you can try putting it in the freezer for a while first to see if it makes the material more brittle.
