For the oil and lubrication experts out there…Is there an alternate recommendation to the BX-300/F grease for the lead screws in this article? On my printers other than the X1, I’ve used the super lube ptfe stuff, 3-in-one oil, and the thicker 00 oil. I imagine the thicker stuff is better for the lead screws but what’s the consensus amongst this group?
I did a quick search for a similar discussion but didn’t find anything…apologies if this is a duplicate.
Thanks in advance for your responses and opinions!
In my opinion you want a sticky grease. The idea is that the grease will stay where you put it and resist moving. When it comes in contact with the knuckle it will coat that internal thread while remaining on the lead screw. You can tell how sticky a grease is by the strings that come from it when you pull on it. The stuff I use has a water proof marine application, and is red in color.
What I like about it is how the grease actually has less wax and more oil
It’s still thick like grease but leaves a nice light oily layer as well
The only downside I’ve found is how quickly my lead screws and rods get dirty because it’s sticky
White lithium is ok but it does dry out easier, sewing machine grease is brutal when it comes to its oily residue so don’t wipe your hands on your pants lol
Also a noob, posting my personal experience. SuperLube, from this Redit post, and it works great: Reddit - Dive into anything
they talk a lot about the number but from what I can find, you either get the NGLi1 or NGLI2 quality and then the number tells you which package size you are getting. See the screenshot below.
