Is there any talks about upgrading camera for better Timelapse and better positioning or just having a external friendly plug in from banbu lab? Anyone have any setups that work with the p1series that gose directly in the printer?
There is not enough processing power on the P1 series, it relies on ESP32 so no way to have better video unfortunately.
What about future plans for an upgrade to be made in new products?
I don’t have my crystal ball at the moment
I am just now in the process of seeing if I can rig up a Raspberry Pi 5 HQ camera and mount it similarly to the not so good 720P camera that comes with the printer.
You don’t really need a better camera if you just want to check on the status of a running print. The existing camera gives a plenty good enough picture if you are using to just abort a failed print and the existing camera has provided that ability a few times already.
I have a Pi HQ camera and a Pi 5 available so may start on that shortly.
Awsome! Yes I agree that its good enough for checking up and aborting fail prints or any other anomalies in the process. Im more interested in something that can plug in and manage a bit easy going than a clumsy exterior wiring to a dlcr and just taking up space around the printer and can take a bit better quality image for Timelapse that is inherit to taking it like the camera already on it or from the front. ( of course good lighting helps)
And my skill set is not all that in knowledge of arduinos or building boards like raspberry pies
I lack that skill but im hoping to hop on some beginner videos to learn and hopefully understand and gain experience on them practicing.
If you do let me know how your project goes sound very interesting!
I’ve been digging into this and I am coming around to maybe using something like a GoPro rather than a Pi camera.
My problem, as an individual, is remembering to start and stop the camera.
The built-in has all that programmed in already. You enable timelapse and you are off to the races.
A GoPro has the ability to do looping video so that is a possible work-around for my forgetfulness.
I think I would only want timelapse type video’s for big/intricate prints in general. I’ve thought about doing this on and off for a while because I can see some benefit but not sure how often it would get used.
I suspect even folks who have X series cameras don’t use timelapse that much.
