We all know the stock camera is garbage, jerky images when it does load, and fails to load more often than it loads. So, with that in mind I’m wanting to use an external camera to monitor prints. What are you all using? I would like to do this cheaply, in the hopes that eventually BBL figures out their software and gets the stock one working. I’m really just looking for a way to remotely make sure my print hasn’t failed lol
Be careful with Wyze Cameras. They are known to distribute images to other sources (security risk). The second FUBAR was just recently discovered and made the headlines. If you’re going to use an external camera, be sure to keep it aimed where you don’t care who sees the images.
I use a cheap esp32 cam, less than a tenner from Amazon/ wherever. Good enough for monitoring prints. It came with useable software installed. It was a bare pcb, (no case, but that’s why you have a printer) including a plug in programmer. Without the programmer, they are cheaper.
I’d heard that about them! I wasn’t thinking something that “complex” anyway since I don’t need storage or anything, just basically want to look and make sure I don’t have spaghetti going on!
Thanks, I’ll check them out!
I use a Blink camera and it works great
I’ve been using a TP-Link Tapo C200 pan and tilt camera for a while now and find it pretty useful. So much so I’ve now started to buy into their whole smart home devices. Mesh Wifi6, outdoor security cameras, smart light switches and the most useful their smart plugs. All controlled from one phone app. With the smart plugs you’ll also be able to shut down the camera and printer remotely if their is an issue you’re not close enough to deal with or with the Bambu Handy app. They cheap as well but not lacking features or reliability. The C200 is £23 on Amazon and has got to be worth a try at that price point.
Thanks, I often print remotely and as we know the built in camera is almost useless.
I would like to see a minimum 2k upgrade option built in replacement so I can use the same handy app on my phone.
But for now I’ll look into a 3rd party camera.
I have a spare Ring Indoor cam, so use that.
I also have a smart plug adapter - so if I notice any failure I can just cut the power remotely too.
We use blink. One on my P1S and one for my daughters Mini, but she keeps knocking hers around. Going to remove it and maybe use for the resin printer when it gets here.
