Can a purchase be completely covered by gift cards?

Two questions for those who have used gift cards before.

Can a purchase be completely covered by gift cards, including tax and shipping, etc?

What if there are some dollars left in the last gift card? Will the left-over amount still be available for a later purchase or will they be gone because the card has been marked as used?

  1. Yes, I had my x1c shipped for $5.xx out of pocket.

  2. Not sure, I’ve never risked it and always fill my cart to only have a few dollars non-giftcarded.

Yes and yes. Any amount left on the card will still be there for future purchaces.

Gonna toss a question #3 out there -

Anyone know what happens if you return/refund/cancel an order made with gift cards?

Good question. Refund in the form of new gift cards? Maybe someone who has done so can share.

Just confirmed that a purchase, including tax and shipping, can be completely covered by gift cards. Remaining balance on the last gift card can be seen by clicking at the Check Status button.

A note: After the order is covered by the gift cards, the checkout process still requires the user to go through Shipping, then Payment, at that point a message shows up to indicate that the order is covered by gift cards.

Tip: The gift cards are in descending chronological order, i.e. the newest ones are on page 1 while the oldest ones are on the last page. Start from the last page and work backwards to use the oldest cards first.
