But I really want to disassemble as least as possible. I thought I could once upon a time buy the complete nozzle and fan and wires so that I can just unplug the 0.4mm and just plug in the 0.2mm and away I go.
Bambu sells both versions. You can save some money by doing the easy assembly yourself (adding a pack of heater cartridges, thermocouples and maybe a fan or two) but for convenience, selecting the “complete hotend” type will get you a pre-assembled one.
Note the price difference though.
They do sell the complete hotend, but it appears their site is broken. I just tried to add one to my cart and no matter what I do it says to “SELECT A BAMBU HOTEND - P1 SERIES”. It won’t let me add it to my cart?
Yes, indeed you need the heater, thermocouples and fan.
I have just switched to the US store and I could order the complete hotend from there. Your issue seems to be related to the ongoing sale.
The complete hotend is not discounted so you may need to get to it through the normal shop page:
That’s because you are on the bundle page, it wants you to select more than 1 Nozzle/Hotend combination. Unless you select all 4 you can’t proceed, you need to go to the store page that’s for the single hotend.
Well, as mentioned, option one gives you extra heater/thermocouples and the fan is not really something that breaks so often. So yes, there is a saving.
Especially since only option 1 is currently in a sale. When I ordered spares for my X1, discounts applied to a mix of nozzles so yes, you can currently safe a lot and stock up on spares as well as getting the .2
Note: I have found the Bambu nozzles to be mainly limited by the heating chamber. So unless you have a particular project in mind where you benefit from a wide line (transparency, vase mode,…), you may want to skip that. Unless you want to dip into the ObXidians…
I have to ask this here as I am a new forum member and new topic button seems to not be available for me yet.
I recently bought a P1S and a hardened steel nozzle to be able to print CF/GF filaments, I have 2 questions:
Should I have bought the complete hotend assembly or can I just install the hardened steel nozzle in the printer which currently has the factory stainless steel hotend?
Should I upgrade the extruder gear too or it is not necessary?
Just enter a few more threads (10 total) and scroll through more posts (30 total) and you should become able to open your own topic.
In the meantime, you’ll need to insrall thermistors and heaters on the hotend and re-use the hot end fan. Not difficult, but you do need the parts.
For the extruder, the hardened extruder gears are recommended as wear is much more pronounced with filled filaments.
You can and I have done this when my original hot end became worn to the point it would not print well. It is a good idea to have the parts available on-hand to do this or have a complete hot end assembly ready in case you have an issue.
You can reuse the fan, heater and thermistor, but you will need fresh thermal paste.
Personally, I would use the stainless nozzle(s) until it starts to show signs of wear and then throw it out. There is no point in swapping back to stainless just for a less abrasive filament, and I don’t need useless parts sitting around the shop. Same for the extruder gears, but I would keep a set of hardened gears on hand.
If you want to try a larger or smaller nozzle, definitely get a complete hot end. Nozzle swaps are much quicker, less messy, and you now have a spare fan if your primary hot end fan fails.
I never understood why the P1 ships with stainless nozzles. Except for the 0.2 size, they are not available for replacement, and when they were, the cost was the same as the hardened versions.
Yes, you can reise them. But since the wires a fragile, I prefer to leave them in place as long as the thermal paste has not become brittle and needs replacement as well.
