In Bambu Studio, I’m using a negative part (cylinder) to put a hole through my model. I need the hole to have a keyhole notch on it. It would be so easy if I could just cut a negative part and place it on the model. Or can I take a primitive cylinder and cut it, and somehow put it through my model to act like a negative part?
Thanks!
If you have the ability if would be simpler to fix the model or to create a model of the negative shape you want. If not you can add primitives and cut and manipulate them then assemble them with another model or primitive to create parts with types which can then be changed to negative.
I think he means like this
Which was created by adding a cylinder primitive, cutting it into parts three times and deleting the created key way part. The benchy and primitive parts were then assembled and the primitive parts changed to negative parts.
Hey thank you for the info!
What I was trying to do, is cut a negative part (cylinder) lengthwise, to give me a slotted cylinder. I was hoping that you could just take a negative part and cut it but you can’t.
The work around that I used, was to take a primitive cylinder, cut it, save as an stl. Then go to my model and load the stl as a negative part. That worked perfectly. Here is my result.
I really appreciate the help
Thank you for your help. I did get it figured out and posted my results below. I’m used to using Cura and know how to do this there. However I’m growing more and more fond of Prusa /Bambu Slicer. Once I figured it out, I’m way happier with the process and results, than I would have achieved with Cura. It takes fewer steps with Prusa Slicer and is just a cleaner process overall.
Thanks again!
You can add a primitive to the plate and cut it. Select the cut primitive and the main model and use the assemble command to make them both parts of an object. As a part the cut primitive type can be changed to negative.
If you don’t mind learning yet another piece of software, Tinkercad works very well for this type of editing. Way more primitives and anything, including the original stl, can be turned into a negative to cut with.
I do use cad software. I was just looking for and easy use of the cutting tool in Bambu Studio. I appreciate the info, though.
Thanks!
