So i am trying to print a file that has wall, then a few cm up it has a bunch of holes (see pictures). And the support structure naturally follows the shape above it, creating a hundred holes in the structure.
This takes time, and in case of the support interface layer, a lots of potential places for it to go wrong, instead of printing a interface layer that covers everything, and then prints the structure around the holes on top of that, essentially saving both time and having less points of failure.
Is there something likethe “initial layer expantion” setting for interface layers ? I could make it print a solid first layer for support that way, but not for the interface layer.
Does anyone know of a good way to do this?
If I am a bit unclear, let me know and I will try to explain better. (english is not my first language)
Parts in the picture is white, support interface is red. I pretty much want the interface layer to print without the holes.
I’m not aware of a way to achieve that. But you could create the interface as a separate part that you print with the intended support material. You could then create automatic support for your interface part with the regular material.
So basically you create a manual support but only the interface and let the rest of the support be created by the slicer.
I thought about that, but that would again increase time and filament usage, as a massive block under something like the picture would be a bit extensive.
Its not a big issue, but it would be nice with more settings for interface layers when using different materials.
Not necessarily. If you want the support interface e.g. two layers high, then you design the extra part 0,4mm thick (assuming 0,2mm layer height) and place it directly below the surface that you want to support. Then you assign it the support material. Then the automatic supports have to support your interface part instead of your original part.
You could also reduce the number of generated interface layers or disable different filament for them.
Basically you only replace the automatic interface by a manual interface.
