Can you paint the perimeters of top surface in a different colour?

I am currently working on a project and i’ve stumbled across a missing feature that i believe would make prints more aesthetic. If anyone knows if there is an actual way of doing it please let me know.

I basically want to highlight text that is embossed into a model using a separate colour on the top and bottom layer. This feature could be extended to being able to highlight any cut out in a part (for instance highlighting holes for assembly) or even just highlighting the outer walls/perimeter of the print but on top and bottom layers only etc so that the edges of the layers can be a different colour to the rest of the face and the other layers of the same wall.

The slicer recognises edges, as it highlights them when you are filling with the paint tool… but it will only fill the whole face. And trying to manually paint is useless for achieving a straight, uniformed edge.

The work around i have done is in my CAD i have extruded a cut out around the text .005mm deep, which then makes it a selectable feature to “paint” … but then because the cut out is so shallow it ignores it when it prints.

If i was to make the cut out deeper, it would end up being an actual cut out in the part, and i want the surface flush, so that is not an option.

Here is an example :

Any advice on how to achieve this is greatly appreciated if it can already be done.

Thanks
