Can you turn off the "silhouette" effect in the Preview

One thing I have never liked about Bambu Studio compared to the Prusa (and Generic Slic3r) version is the ‘silhouette’ effect you get around the object in Preview.

It has its uses, but when you are trying to inspect layers, its very difficult to see the layer as its “wrapped” in the silhouette.

Today I had a failed print and it was caused by some missing geometry, but even though the preview was in single layer mode, the object was black, and the silhouette just made it impossible to see what is going on, even thought its partially transparent.

Am I missing an option to turn this effect off? In truth, when you go into “current layer” view, I don’t see why the silhouette of the whole object is still shown.. So is there a button or keypress I am missing?

I found it.. After suffering with this for years, I just found the option

Its in the Preferences under “3D” and you have to untick the option which says “always show shells in preview”.

I must admit, I tried this option before but it didn’t do anything.. But I think you have to “re-slice” to see the effect…

Its just a shame that this isn’t a button on the GUI, as I could see being able to toggle the “shell” on and off useful…

I would delete my post, but figured this might help someone, so will leave this hear..

Cheers all.

Glad you found it, to each their own. I like the shadow, it helps highlight if there are any thin bodies that got removed/altered by the slicer

Hmmm.. I might be missing something. In my case, an error in the geometry ment that an entire layer was missing.. But when I went up and down through the layers, the ‘shell’ being visible, and being almost the same colour as the layers (black) made it impossible to see the individual layers, even in “layer view”..

Personally, I do like the shell.. But I think there i a genuine reason to turn it off, and am surprised there isn’t a button, rather than hiding the option away in the preferences.

I am interested in what you mean by “highlight if there are any thin bodies that got removed”.. Where do you see this? I have never seen anything shown in the “shell” which is helpful.

Here’s an example of text, and it has thin features that might be too small for my nozzle.

You can see the serifs getting deleted by the slicer, thanks to the shadow. Visual cue for me, the user, to make it bigger, get a smaller nozzle, etc.
