Can't Change Color of Filament in AMS - Read Only

I suspect this has been covered but I couldn’t find an answer.

I have a X1C with the latest revision firmware. I am using Bambu PETG HF with RFID tags. The AMS picks up the tags fine. The problem is that doesn’t seem to release the information.

I wanted to use the last bit of filament on a blue roll. So I decided to change the color to match a gray roll in my AMS. I have done this before with non-rfid filament. Unfortunately it would not let me either change the color or even reset the spool information. It said it was read only.

So I turned off the option to check for spools on startup, removed the spool, and turned the printer back on. I was going to try to manually set the filament spool. No luck. It still thought a blue spool was there.

So I turned the option to sense for filament on startup back on thinking it would sense there was no spool there. Nope! It still sees the same thing.

So I took the gray spool from a different spot and loaded it in the place it thinks is blue. When I turned on the printer it saw that the gray spot was empty but ignored the rfid on the gray spool and still insists that it is blue.

I loaded Bambu studio and told it to reset. It didn’t give me an error but it didn’t change anything.

Please help. This is mildly infuriating.

You can’t change the color for bambu filaments, but if you only have a little left on the spool then just rip the RFID tags out with a pliers. Or just destroy it with a flush cutter.

I haven’t tried it but a piece of metal between the tag and reader should blocked the RFID communication. Should be as simple as taping some thick aluminum foil to the side of the spool.

Occam’s Razor applies here! I didn’t try the AMS sync but I will next time. This morning I turned on the Update on Startup which I don’t know why I didn’t try last night. I usually leave it off because it takes so long.

In this case it found the correct filament.

This brings up another question: Last night when the filament ran out I was expecting it to retract a bit so I could pull the remaining out. This is what it did with the original firmware. I remember having to be there because I sometimes had to hold open the little lock mechanism otherwise the filament would get stuck.

Last night it seemed to use most of the filament and then it told me something like it was having trouble loading and that I should trim the end of the filament flush. At this point I simply loaded the gray spool and it continued printing. So I have a half blue and half gray part and that is perfectly fine!

This way is easier it seems to me. Was this a update in the firmware?
