I have 3 PLAs and one PETG in my AMS and when I try to choose PETG to print, the AMS or Bambu Studio does not allow me to. Any ideas why?
You can’t choose PETG because the model was sliced for PLA…
Makes sense but if I change all of the AMS slots to PETG, it works. Thanks.
That is not a solution. If the model was sliced for PLA it’s not going to go well trying to print that file with PETG.
Thanks again. I’m still a newbie and love learning all this new stuff! I had no idea that slicing would be different for the different types of filaments and my next task is learning how to slice for different filaments. Any thoughts?
You select your filament and its settings there.
Then in the AMS page you showed it offers slots that are compatible with that.
Thanks. I’m good with this part. I can’t figure out why I can’t choose PETG when my other 3 AMS slots are PLA.
If the thing you’re trying to print was sliced in PLA, then PLA is all you’ll be able to select. No matter what is where or anything, nothing else matters. You will not be able to print it in PETG until you slice the file and select PETG as the filament BEFORE it’s sliced.
To expand on what @johnfcooley said, the reason behind this is because the sliced file has the nozzle temperature and filament profile in it.
If you try to print a file sliced for PLA with a nozzle temperature of say 210c then printing it with PETG will cause a lot of troubles as the nozzle isn’t hot enough to properly print PETG. The file needs to be resliced with the PETG profile so that the nozzle temperature is correct for that type of filament inside of the gcode file.
