Can't find Change Type menu to change a part to negative

I have been trying to change a part to negative but when I right click on it the pop-up does not have Change Type on it. If I add text to my part I can right click on it and change type is there, but only for the text. How do I get to the change type menu for a part on my build plate?

On your Privative part (the solid part you want cut out), right click and in the “Add Negative Part” menu select “Load”. This will allow you to pick a part that you want as a negative.

change type works for me. change to negative part

You’ve probably figured this out already, but I just ran into this and figured out why the ‘change type’ right click option disappeared. The objects first have to be assembled together (Select all, right click assemble) and then the change type to negative pops up as an option.

I was having a hard time with this. It’s listed as “Merge” now instead of assemble.

This was the ticket, thank you!

Similar situation, but not quite the same. I have 10 cylinders on a rectangular plate that pass thru the plate. I meant to add the cylinders as a negative part but forgot. My intent is to create 10 evenly-spaced holes in the plate. I have all the cylinders properly aligned and don’t want to recreate them from scratch as negatives and align them. How do I convert the cylinders to negative parts? The guidance above for text does not work. When I select the cylinder, right-click>Add negative part>Load - I get a dialog box to open a file.

For this to work, your model needs to be formed from the merger of two or more parts.

So to merge parts:

To make one or more negative:

Malc, Thank you for your reply. I’m on Bambu version 2.1.0.59. This didn’t work for me.

After performing the Merge, the Cylinders and Plate are one object - I cannot select any cylinders.

I don’t get the change type option on right-click

tried to attach screenshots - I am not worthy of such privs

Your advice is greatly appreciated
