Change Filament using an AMS Lite Spool & External Spool

I’m doing a print that combines normal PLA with Flexible PLA (which needs to be fed from an external spool). I’ve setup a Change Filament command at a specific layer. When I slice this and go to print it doesn’t give me an option to use the External Spool. I can either enable AMS OR turn it off which causes it to use the External Spool. I have removed one of the PTFE hub connections and run my external spool in through that. This works fine when printing just the Flexible PLA.

When I look at the spool mapping on the Device Tab it shows what I have. But the spool selection options on the Send Print Job To dialog aren’t showing both the AMS & External. Why is that? How can I get this to switch from an AMS spool to my External Spool? Or is my only option to do all of this from the External Spool and have to manually swap the filaments?

I also tried to enable AMS and print. But when it got to the Change Filament it just complained that there was no filament in the AMS at that slot and wouldn’t continue. I thought it may give me an option of selecting the External Spool if needed. Think this would be a better approach to allow users to load filaments any way they need. There’s got to be a way to do what I need. Appreciate any guidance.

Do I understand correctly that you want to print with 5 spools?

If so, this will not work with the external spool holder as it cannot retract the filament. The AMS can retract filaments so that another filament can be printed.

If I have misunderstood your problem, please just ignore it.

No, I just want to print with Flexible PLA from an external spool and use one of the AMS Lite spools for the rest of the print. There’s no retraction issue, I will print the bulk of the print from the AMS first and then switch to the external spool to complete. The external spool will always be the last filament printed.
