Change of lineup for MakerWorld Contests!

Hi makers,

As we approach our 30th contest, we want to reflect on the incredible time we’ve had with our past contests. We hope you’ve enjoyed them as much as we have. We sincerely thank all participants and congratulate the winners. For those still considering joining, we warmly invite you to our future contests.

Now, onto the main topic: There will be three different levels of contests in the coming future. You will be able to distinguish them by their names and titles.

Master Challenges: Some of you may have observed that we’ve included our Master Challenge Series in the current contest lineup. Master Challenges have certain unique characteristics that set them apart from our regular contests:

  • They typically require the integration of other components or features available in MakerWorld, such as:

    • MakerLab

    • Specific Filaments

    • Official Hardware Kits

    • Hardware parts or Electronics

    • Printer Accessories

  • They offer significantly higher prize money compared to regular contests

  • They generally run for a longer duration than regular contests

Pop-up Workshops: Much like a pop quiz, these workshops will be released without any previews or teasers. The goal is to see who can generate the most exciting ideas and intriguing designs on the given topics spontaneously.

Together with our regular contests, these two additions will form our complete contest lineup. Our aim is to offer a diverse selection of contest themes that cater to designers with varying skill sets and interests, allowing everyone to participate and strive. Our goal is to provide our users with the highest quality and most extensive collection of contest models moving forward.

Let us know your thoughts and suggestions in the comments, thanks!

One little announcement regarding the following two contests:
Due to the delay in BOM supplies for our Shoe charm contest, we have decided to switch start date for the following two contests. Now, our 'Beauty of Mathematics‘ contest will start next week on Jun.24th, and our ‘Shoe Charm’ contest will start on Jul.1st. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Why hasn’t the movie role-playing prop contests started yet?

Now this is what I like to see!! I have a strong feeling when MakerWorld is out of beta, I’m going to fall in love with it even more! Great work @MakerWorld :clap:t4: :sparkling_heart:

This helps diversify the content to much needed extents. I look forward to seeing more educational/functional/mechatronic based contests in the future line ups! :crossed_fingers:t4:

I have a model that I’ve been taking heavy thought on and planning which involves STEM related micro builds. I hope to share them with you soon, 80% of the parts are available on Maker’s Supply so I’ll suggest the couple that aren’t and hopefully you’ll consider adding them.

Thanks everyone, Make sure the Bam-Labs know the work they’ve done is greatly appreciated and doesn’t go unnoticed! :green_heart:

I’d personally like to see better enforcement of the rules before more contest types are introduced. There are a lot of posts that have nothing to do with the contest, or low effort copies of existing products, or are forced to be ‘in topic’ in completely ridiculous and impractical ways, or older models that skirt the creation data restrictions by being re-added. The fact that some of these models win awards only aggravates things.

One suggestion i have is try harder to stick to your timelines i see many contest dates moved/changed as well as some of the prizes. Also perhaps make the contest rules less vague so say Joe Schmo doesnt just change his “fishing lure” design into a “Greek wedding christmas fishing lure” by simply changin its name

this i agree with 200% i mean someone had wedding darts… currently hammer in wizard contest

Wedding darts

I really enjoyed the wireless mouse contest and hope it’s a sign of things to come from the Master Challenges. There are a bunch of really cool designs in that contest and I think the judges are going to have a time making a decision.

Wait, the BOM mentioned—does that mean the Shoe Charm contest requires using something supplied by Bambu Lab? I’ve been preparing for the Shoe Charm contest ever since it was announced.

I used a VPN to check the European store and I understand now.
The Shoe Charm contest will require using a kit, right?
If I try to access the Bambu Lab store outside of Japan, I get a 404 error, so there’s no way to get information about the kit.

The dates have been postponed multiple times, and was it announced somewhere that the contest requires using a kit supplied by Bambu Lab? It feels like there could have been a better way to handle this.
I’ve been designing and testing multiple times to have my entry ready for release this weekend, and now this happens. It’s really disappointing.

really they shouldnt give hints to future contests IMO just announce them as they come then no one gets an unfair advantage

I completely agree. They should either release the regulations in detail beforehand or just say, “Alright, the contest starts now!” The current approach is just too ambiguous.

Their announcement was to say they are adding to the mix, including a contest that will not have any information divulged beforehand.

Some still will due to the nature of those contests requiring a greater lead time and an opportunity to purchase something that goes along with the contest (mouse kit & 0.2mm nozzle as examples) or learn a new skill.

still previews

Well that is not great straight out of the gate, is it!

Hey ysk1025. Our BOM list is just to provide contestants with more options to design more compatible models with various specifications of shoes. Your entry are not required to use our provided BOM. We appreciate your interest and welcome you to participate in all of our contests!

That’s a relief to hear. If it becomes available in Japan, I would like to consider the option of using it. Thank you for your response and the additional information.

Please add the description to the upcoming contests too :pray:t3:
