CHANGE REQUEST: Why are we rating print profiles instead of models?

You’ll have to explain that part to me in a bit more detail. I agree with the first part of what you’re saying, but I’m not sure I understand the second point about Bambu somehow measuring whether users are “happy”. How exactly?

Anything below a 4-star rating gets removed by Bambu anyway. Because of that, the rating system doesn’t really provide much meaningful feedback in the lower range. So I’m curious what metric you’re referring to when you say Bambu can determine whether people are happy.

If you want to measure how satisfied people are, you also have to measure when they’re dissatisfied - but how if negative feedback is removed across the board - most of the time?

Via the star ratings of the print profiles…

Have you read my comment? Ratings below 4 stars get removed anyway, so I’m honestly confused about the point you’re trying to make?

Maybe you could explain it in a little more detail than just a few words.:+1:

I don’t understand what you don’t get. The most monetary reward goes to the models with highly rated print profiles.

No? The point system doesn’t work that way?

If all negative reviews are deleted - which is currently the case - there will be no negative reviews. Right now, almost all of them have extremely high ratings because the negative ones - that is, those with fewer than 4 stars - are being deleted.

Like I said, I’m trying to understand you, but if you post just one sentence again, I’ll ignore it.

The model with a print profile with 100 5 star ratings will earn more reward than the one with 10 5 star ratings. Bambu deleting low star ratings doesn’t impact the reward. That’s just them making things look more positive than it is, to encourage printing more. That’s the whole point of the site. To get people to print more of ANYTHING. Bambu doesn’t really care what you print as long as you’re printing. Because printing means burning up printers that wear out and filament that is single use. Users printing anything eventually feeds their bottom line. But users being happy with what they printed engenders more printing, and that’s why Bambu focuses the ratings and the rewards on the print profiles.

I do not know exactly how the entire process works to put a model on MakerWorld but I can say if the exact model, same person, same model is on Printables and on Makerworld, I’m going to download it from Printables because I can download the model and not the model creators print profile. I assume that is because of the .3mf format on Makerworld vs .stl file on printables.

It is almost guaranteed that the model creators configuration is different than mine so even though you have the selection as soon as I import the model it changes my printer to the model creators setup which in most cases changes the printer in my copy of Studio to the creators X1C. I have 4 different AMS devices. Model creators usually do not have 4 AMS and the colors and materials in their AMS will be different.

Net result of that is I have to MANUALLY change back to my printer AND I have to resync all my AMS units.

When I go hunting a model, I use the sort option set to sort on number of downloads on the theory that “The cream rises to the top”.
That translates to Good models will be downloaded more than not good models.
