Changing (stuck) hot end

OK, about 200 hours on my first 3D printer the X2D and I couldn’t be more happy with it.

Anyway I wanted to change the hot end from the stock .4 size to a .2 size for some finer details to some graphics and text on the print. Couple questions please:

1- Are hot ends also called nozzles? I hear/see/read both and just want to be sure I’m clear on that. LOL

2- I know the X2D is supposed to have the same size hot ends in both primary and secondary positions. However if I’m just doing 1 print with 1 nozzle and want it done with a .2 hot end, and currently have both .4 hot ends installed, can I just change the primary one over to .2? The secondary one won’t be used so why go through changing that one. Once the print is done, I will be going back to .4, so switching out the secondary that won’t be used anyway seems redundant to change it twice for nothing.

Maybe tje problem though, is that I need to change that hot end size in the X2D settings, and also in the slicer so I would effectively by lying to the software if I only input the change for the primary, then it might give me an error if I have not input a secondary hot end size change. Or does changing the size in the settings do both? I have not got that far yet, see question #3

3- I changed the secondary nozzle to.2 easily (and had been using that one as mostly for support interface material). However when I went to change the primary hot end it doesn’t want to come out, or to be more clear pull away at the bottom. I’m scared to force it in any way or use tools. My guess is there is some filament somewhere near the bottom that is acting like glue, but it’s not really obvious. I looks like it should just pull out like the secondary did. so then next I did a small 10 minute print so it was heated up, and then I tried again to pull it out with only my fingers but still no luck.

Any tips or advice what I should do if I want to continue to try and get it out, or maybe just leave it alone until it really needs replacing? I have no idea how long they last with my filament which currently is PLA /Petg basic, PLA /Petg Silk, PLA Petg Translucent, and PLA wood. I know lots of questions, thank you.

Nozzle and hotend are the same thing. People use them interchangeably.

I never tried to just change the L nozzle without changing the right. Probably does not hurt to try it and let us know.

Not sure why it would stick at the bottom when trying to remove it. I assume you removed the silicone sock first.

Filaments such as CF/GF, glow, wood, marble, etc are abrasive and will reduce nozzle life compared to non-abrasive version of the filaments.

Yep, silicone sock removed and then the nozzle is unclipped. Assuming they come out the same i had no issues changing the secondary.nozzle. Something is holding the primary in and assume it’s maybe some filament acting as glue. Not sure how to deal with it without potentially damaging it.

Yes, I have the same problem with removing the left hotend. I just put it on to warm up at 200-250 degrees Celsius and it can be easily removed when heated, of course you should not take it with your bare hands. When installing, the right nozzle fits snugly and does not swing even without a latch, but the left one swings easily, as if the surface of the fit is not smooth. So I suspect that plastic is stuffed into this unevenness, which then prevents the nozzle from being removed. Check it out, how are you?

I also have to apply heat (and use a glove) to get the x2d left nozzle out. On my a1’s you sometimes have to do this too. It’s baked-on plastic that found itself stuck in an inconvenient spot. Set nozzle to 140ish, just needs to be above the materials glass transition temp.

OK, so to heat the left nozzle what exactly do I need to do if I’m not printing anything and I just want to heat it up? I see the left nozzle on the panel with up and down arrows (which looks like they might be for temperatures, but I’d like to be a little bit more sure what I need to do exactly before I mess with it. This is all new to me. Thanks.

See 4. Nozzle & Extruder in the link below. Tap the temp and then you can enter the temp you want for the nozzle. Obviously do not touch with your bare hands once it is hot.

Thanks for the link, that will help a lot. I thought I looked at the Bambu Wiki, but if I did I missed that.

did the filament cutter cut it? If Yes then it might be a faulty nozzle or assembly, if filament cutter did not cut it it might be a faulty filament cutter.

Have the same problem. Cant remove the left hot end
