Pieksekisten Design Contest – A Personal Reflection
Now that the winners have been announced and the first certificates are being prepared, we would like to take a moment to thank everyone who became part of this very special project.
To be completely honest, when we launched this contest, we never expected to receive so many creative, thoughtful, and heartfelt entries.
Every single model represented someone’s time, talent, and willingness to help bring a little joy to children facing difficult circumstances. That is why, for us, this project was never just about a competition.
Selecting the Top 3 winners was incredibly difficult. There were many models that could have deserved a place on the podium, and in many cases the decisions were very close.
Choosing the models for the Kids’ Choice Award was no easier. We wanted the children to have a strong and diverse selection to choose from, while also considering practical use within the hospital environment. We also had to take licensing and intellectual property considerations into account. Some entries inspired by existing movies, games, or commercial franchises were wonderfully designed, but unfortunately could not be included in the final selection.
Even so, we are incredibly proud of the final group of models and grateful to every creator who participated.
Today, we would like to once again recognize the winners and thank them for their contribution to this project.
Winning Model:
Wall Decor & IV Stand Clip Pieksekisten x Art Zig
This model is already being used within the hospital and has received many positive reactions from both children and staff.
Winning Model:
Puppet Theater with Puppets and Scenery
A wonderful design that encourages creativity, imagination, and shared play.
@PrecisionCrafts
Winning Model:
Brain Teaser Puzzle Board | 48 Challenges | 5 Levels
A model that combines curiosity, concentration, and learning through play.
Community Favorite Award
Winning Model:
Pieksi – A Friend from a Syringe
The community’s favorite and a very special companion for many children.
Certificates are currently being prepared and distributed to the winners as PDFs and, if requested, as printed copies.
Meanwhile, the Kids’ Choice Award is now underway at the hospital. The children themselves will decide which models they like best.
We are just as excited as everyone else to see the final results and will gladly share updates as soon as we receive news from the hospital.
Thank you to every designer, supporter, maker, donor, commenter, and helper who made this project possible.
Little Boxes. Great Impact.

Saubere Arbeit Pascal!!
Project Update – External Printing Support
Over the past months, we have been working on a structured way to allow external printing support for the Pieksekisten project.
Today, we are happy to share that the initial framework and guidelines have been completed.
The goal is to allow community members to contribute printed models while maintaining clear standards regarding:
- quality
- safety
- hygiene
- inventory management
- and responsible use of resources
External printing support will not operate as an open “print anything and send it” system.
Instead, volunteers will be able to apply for specific print campaigns, allowing us to coordinate models and quantities while avoiding unnecessary overproduction.
All submitted models will first be sent to the project team, where they will undergo:
- quality inspection
- safety review
- cleaning
- and, where appropriate, disinfection
before they become part of the project inventory and are later distributed through the Pieksekisten.
A dedicated topic containing the complete guidelines, application process and future printing campaigns can now be found here:
Please note:
At the moment, we are not yet looking for external printing support.
Future print campaigns, model requests and volunteer opportunities will be announced in the dedicated topic.
Thank you to everyone who has shown interest in helping and supporting the project.

Thank you for supporting the Pieksekisten Charity Project and helping us bring smiles to children through 3D printing. ![]()
We would also like to share a small project update.
Some of you may have noticed that our recent model releases have been progressing a little slower than usual. This was mainly due to the extensive preparation work for the Kids Choice Award. During the planning, printing, organization, photography, and packaging phases, a significant amount of our available printing capacity and project time was dedicated to preparing the event.
In addition, we recently faced an unexpected challenge: several contest participants decided to withdraw their models after publication. We fully respect these decisions, but it also creates a considerable amount of additional work on our side. Whenever a model is withdrawn, we must remove photos and references, identify printed copies, stop any further distribution, and review existing Pieksekisten to ensure that no withdrawn models continue to be distributed without permission.
In some cases, this also requires us to inspect already packed boxes and previously delivered collections. Respecting the wishes and rights of designers is extremely important to us, and we will always prioritize this, even when it results in delays and additional work.
The good news is that printing is now returning to normal, new batches are being completed, and we are looking forward to sharing many more models with you soon.
Thank you for your patience, your understanding, and your continued support of the project.

Kids’ Choice Award Update ![]()
Today we received another update from the hospital, and honestly, it made us smile.
The Kids’ Choice Award is now officially underway, and the first children have already taken part in the voting process.
We currently know that at least five children have already participated, and according to the staff, every child wanted to join the activity.
One comment from the hospital particularly stayed with us:
“The children are really excited because these are things you simply cannot buy.”
For us, that sentence perfectly captures what this entire project is about.
The contest winners have already been announced, but seeing the children interact with the models is what makes all the work worthwhile.
The voting is still ongoing, and we will continue to keep everyone updated as more children take part in the Kids’ Choice Award.
Thank you again to all designers, makers, supporters, and everyone who helped make this possible. ![]()

A Small Update from Augsburg Pediatric Oncology ![]()
We wanted to share a small update with everyone following the Pieksekisten project.
The Kids’ Choice Award is now underway at Augsburg Pediatric Oncology and, according to the feedback we have received from the hospital, the children are really enjoying the experience.
The voting is still ongoing, as not every child has had the opportunity to participate yet. To keep everything fair, even we do not know the current results or which model is leading. The final outcome is being kept secret until the voting has been completed, so we are just as excited as everyone else to discover the children’s favorite.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any new photos to share at the moment. The staff member who usually takes the pictures and coordinates the parental consent forms has recently been away from the ward due to professional training and additional duties in another part of the hospital. Because of this, no new photos have been taken during the last few days. As soon as new pictures become available, we will happily share them with all of you.
However, something happened that completely surprised us.
The voting box was originally intended only for the children to explore the twenty selected models before casting their vote.
Instead, many children asked the nurses if they could take their favorite model home with them.
The nurses simply couldn’t say no to those smiling faces.
As a result, many of the models have already found new homes, and we have now started printing an entirely new voting box so that every child who visits the hospital over the coming days and weeks will once again have the complete selection available.
Honestly, we could not have wished for more meaningful feedback.
The children didn’t just look at the models.
They didn’t just vote for them.
They wanted to keep them.
For us, that is probably the greatest compliment this project could ever receive.
Thank you to every designer, every maker, every supporter and every member of this wonderful community.
Without all of you, none of this would have been possible.
As soon as the Kids’ Choice Award has finished, we’ll share the final results and many more impressions from the hospital.
Thank you all for being part of this journey. ![]()
this is still the craziest competition ever launched… if not maybe, of all time…?? : )
genial pascal!

That is truly heart-warming. Thank you so much for sharing! The voting will be finished whenever it is done. As long as it’s bringing smiles, that’s what counts!

Like many communities, we’re also noticing the summer holiday season, so things are a little quieter at the moment. Even so, our printers are still running, and we’re continuing to prepare new Pieksekisten so there will be plenty of smiles waiting after the holidays.
Thank you again to everyone who supports this project—whether by designing, printing, sharing, or simply cheering us on. Your kindness truly makes a difference for these children. ![]()
