I wanted to take a moment for something that is long overdue.
Over the past weeks, a lot has happened in the background — on the printers, in the workshop, around the website, in the hospital cycle, and in the daily work that keeps this entire project moving.
And because of that, one thing unfortunately fell far too short lately:
a proper and visible thank you.
That needs to be corrected.
There have been a number of people over the past weeks who quietly helped keep this project moving — through filament, hardware, support, practical help, or simply by making sure the next production runs could continue.
Some of that support was visible.
A lot of it happened quietly in the background.
And all of it mattered.

The last stretch has been extremely full behind the scenes, and on top of that I have been running a bit below normal capacity due to two smaller procedures on my neck. Nothing dramatic, but enough to slow things down and force me to work more in backlog than in real time.
And sometimes that simply means things get done a little later than they should — even when they matter.
But none of this support was overlooked.

Umso mehr freue ich mich weiterhin für euch, wie dein kleiner Foreneintrag einfach so wahnsinnig “eskaliert” ist.
Ich hoffe meine Einhornartikel konnten bereits einem Kind ein lächeln ins Gesicht zaubern, weiß ja nicht wie der Durchsatz bei den Pieksekisten ist.
Leider hatte ich bisher keine Modelle die ich dir anbieten kann, deshalb habe Ich einen Wassereishalter kreiert der gerade kleineren Kindern hilft, wo die Feinmotorik ja noch eher Grobmotorik ist.
Ob das ganze jetzt Pieksekisten tauglich ist weiß ich nicht, eventuell muss im Sommer dann eine Eiskiste her

A small backlog update from the Pieksekisten print room
Over the last days we printed, tested, photographed and prepared a lot of contest models for the upcoming website gallery, print reviews and forum posts.
Some of these prints will later become part of future Pieksekisten batches for children in hospitals, others were simply too fun not to share.
As always: huge thanks to all creators participating in the contest
The “Squishy Loopz Spiral” by @brandawg93 was honestly hard to put down once printed.
The movement feels surprisingly smooth and the spiral effect works really well as a small tactile fidget.
A very satisfying mechanical fidget print from @New_Maker.
The Water Ripple Fingertip Gear Gyro printed cleanly and the gear movement came out nicely even in batch production.
The “You’re a Star” Infinity Cube by @baebae turned out super colorful and playful.
Definitely one of those prints that instantly catches attention on the table.
The articulated German Shepherd keychains by @printaszek turned out really cute.
The black/tan color combination worked especially well for the dog details.
The Grass Block Clicker by @tobkar_ was one of the biggest “just one more click” prints so far
The MX switch feeling combined with the block design works incredibly well.
The Couple Bear Cheerleading Team by @J.Z.D. brought a lot of color and energy to the print table.
And yes… I only noticed after the photos that I forgot to fully remove some supports
The raised-eyebrow owls by @Felix_Drohne281 printed beautifully with silk filament.
Depending on the angle they almost look like tiny grumpy guardians watching the room.
The “Mini Hospital Heroine” by @Nescrich fits especially well into the whole Pieksekisten idea.
A small figure, but with a really strong symbolic meaning.
And finally the Little Star Kitten by @pawnyca — probably one of the cutest prints from this batch
Bright colors, smooth movement and just a very cheerful design overall.

Es ist manchmal selbst für uns schwer zu realisieren, wie sehr dieses Projekt mittlerweile gewachsen ist. Umso schöner ist es zu lesen, dass dich das Ganze weiterhin begleitet und sogar dazu inspiriert hat, selbst etwas mit Blick auf die Kinder zu entwerfen.
Und ehrlich gesagt: Deine Idee mit dem Wassereishalter finden wir tatsächlich ziemlich durchdacht.
Das Thema Feinmotorik begegnet einem im Klinikalltag häufiger, als viele vermutlich denken. Je nach Alter, Behandlung, Erschöpfung oder allgemeiner Situation können selbst kleine Dinge plötzlich schwierig werden. Genau deshalb finden wir es schön, dass du dir nicht nur Gedanken über „ein schönes Modell“, sondern über einen echten praktischen Nutzen gemacht hast.
Gerade dieser Gedanke:
“Designs should be practical for real-world use in a clinical environment”
passt extrem gut zu dem, was wir mit den Pieksekisten eigentlich erreichen möchten.
Ob etwas am Ende wirklich kliniktauglich ist, können und dürfen wir natürlich auch nicht alleine entscheiden, da spielen Hygiene, Material, Reinigung und viele andere Dinge mit rein. Aber genau solche Ideen und Überlegungen finden wir unglaublich wertvoll.
Und wer weiß… vielleicht brauchen wir im Sommer wirklich irgendwann eine kleine Pieksekisten-Eisstation

I wanted to take a moment for a bigger project update.
Some of you may have noticed that things have been a bit quieter from our side here in the thread since May 7th.
No worries:
The project is very much alive — quite the opposite.
Right now, several larger things are happening in parallel behind the scenes, and they take a lot of time, because the next steps need to be handled properly and responsibly.
MakerWorld Top 3 & Kids’ Choice Award
A large part of our current time is going into the final contest evaluations.
That includes both the MakerWorld Top 3 selection and the Kids’ Choice Award selection.
And no — this is genuinely much more than simply looking at a few nice models
We are not only looking at designs visually, but also practically:
Is the model realistically printable?
How does it behave as an actual production batch?
Are the files / print profiles properly prepared?
Is the model durable enough?
Does it make real sense in a charity context?
How will children likely interact with it?
Does it provide engagement / distraction / comfort?
Is the final selection fair and understandable?
Especially for the Kids’ Choice Award, the criteria are often completely different from a classic technical evaluation.
It is not only about what is technically clever — but also about what genuinely connects with children, keeps them engaged, distracts them, or simply creates a small moment of joy.
Putting that together fairly takes significantly more time than it may seem from the outside.
Meanwhile, the actual project work continues
And while the contest evaluations are happening in the background, the actual project work obviously does not stop.
A very concrete production phase is currently already running for the hospital.
The pediatric oncology department and the day clinic have placed a direct request for:
40 sets of the “Wall Decor & IV Stand Clip Pieksekisten x Art Zig” model from Desginer @La_Forge_d_Orion, each set including both the large and small clip, to help make IV stands a little friendlier and more personal for the children.

So while the Top 3, Kids’ Choice, and guideline work are happening in the background, the printers are obviously not standing still.
They are already working on real hospital requests in parallel.
And that is often the part people do not see from the outside.
While there may be fewer visible updates here in the forum, real production is already happening again behind the scenes for the next deliveries.
External printing – we are actively working on it
One question we have received again and again over the past weeks:
“Can I help by printing?”
The short answer: Yes — we are actively working toward that.
The longer answer:
We do not want to open that process quickly and then improvise.
If external prints become part of the project, it needs to happen in a structured, transparent, and safe way.
That includes things like:
quality guidelines
material requirements
what can / cannot be accepted
packaging / handling rules
coordination to avoid overproduction
sensible collection / handover processes
designer / licensing considerations
clear project rules
Because these prints eventually end up in a sensitive medical environment, we would much rather do this properly than publish something half-finished too early.
Our current goal is still to publish the first external print guidelines around June 1st — if everything is ready and properly finalized by then.
What people often do not see
Many people see finished batches, photos, or individual updates here in the forum.
What is often invisible:
the actual day-to-day workload behind it is significantly larger.
Right now, the Pieksekisten workshop runs three Bambu Lab P1S Combo systems, not as spontaneous single-print machines, but as a planned production pipeline.
We do not simply print “one model.”
We plan production batches.
That means:
checking which filaments are already loaded
grouping suitable color combinations
selecting matching models
preparing print jobs
timing long runs realistically
removing completed prints
quality control
post-processing
photography
image editing (Lightroom / Photoshop)
reviewing print profiles
posting photos back to MakerWorld
maintaining the website gallery
preparing Instagram content
documentation
And even that is only one part of the bigger picture.
Because the Pieksekisten are not made up of 3D prints alone.
A second part comes through wishlists, donated supplies, and additional supporting items.

Nichts Dramatisches, aber unangenehm genug Ich hatte einen Abszess im Halsbereich, der in mehreren Schritten entfernt werden musste und heilt aktuell noch.
Zum Kids Choice Award:
Der läuft bewusst anders als die MakerWorld Top 3.
Die MakerWorld Top 3 wählen wir als Projektteam aus.
Beim Kids Choice Award entscheiden die Kinder selbst.
Dafür wählen wir aktuell geeignete Modelle aus dem Contest aus, drucken diese real aus, prüfen sie auf Qualität und bereiten sie entsprechend auf.
Diese Modelle gehen dann ins Krankenhaus.
Dort wird die Abstimmung direkt vor Ort organisiert.
Die Kinder können sich die Modelle anschauen, anfassen, ausprobieren und dann ihre Stimme abgeben.
Da die Kinder je nach Behandlung, Therapieform und Terminen nicht alle gleichzeitig vor Ort sind, läuft dieser Prozess über einen gewissen Zeitraum und nicht einfach an einem einzigen Tag.
Wenn alle Stimmen abgegeben wurden, werden diese ausgewertet und die Gewinner bekanntgegeben.
Und ja — das Krankenhaus kennt das Projekt inzwischen natürlich entsprechend gut
Aktuell laufen parallel z. B. sogar direkte Anfragen aus dem Krankenhaus, während wir die Award-Phase organisieren.
Ich finde solche Fragen übrigens absolut berechtigt — von außen sieht man oft nur das Ergebnis, aber nicht, wie viele Schritte dazwischen eigentlich liegen

das ist eine coole sache mit dem kids choice award, ehrlich wahr!!

Zu deinen Fragen:
Wie lange sich die Kinder mit den Kids-Choice-Modellen beschäftigen können, hängt tatsächlich von Faktoren ab, die wir selbst gar nicht direkt steuern können.
Die Abstimmung läuft im Rahmen des Aufenthalts im sogenannten Pieksezimmer — also dort, wo ohnehin Blutkontrollen und vorbereitende Dinge stattfinden.
Wie viel Zeit dabei konkret entsteht, hängt vom jeweiligen Behandlungstag, Ablauf und den medizinischen Gegebenheiten ab.
Das organisiert die zuständige Assistentin vor Ort, und da vertrauen wir dem Krankenhaus bzw. ihr komplett, dass das sinnvoll und passend gehandhabt wird.
Also keine starre „ihr habt jetzt X Minuten“-Lösung, sondern eingebettet in den realen Klinikalltag.
Und ja — natürlich wird es danach auch ein Update geben
Wenn die Abstimmung abgeschlossen ist und alle Stimmen zusammen sind, werden wir das selbstverständlich hier mit der Community teilen.
Zur Sichtbarkeit im Krankenhaus:
Das ist tatsächlich ein etwas gemischtes Thema
Die Station selbst, die Onkologie und auch der Chefarzt kennen das Projekt sehr gut — von ihm haben wir sogar einmal einen persönlichen Dankesbrief bekommen.
Der restliche Krankenhausapparat, also größere Marketing-/PR-Strukturen oder andere Bereiche, wissen dagegen bislang eher wenig davon.
Das war bisher ehrlich gesagt auch nie wirklich wichtig für uns, weil der Fokus immer darauf lag, dass die Dinge dort ankommen, wo sie gebraucht werden.
Aber ich denke, in Zukunft wird sich da vermutlich noch einiges weiterentwickeln.
Genau aus diesem Gedanken heraus überlegen wir aktuell auch bereits, wie man die Sichtbarkeit künftig etwas besser lösen könnte.
Eine Idee wäre z. B. ein kleiner QR-Code-Aufsteller oder ein dezentes Info-Emblem, über das interessierte Eltern oder Besucher das Projekt direkt aufrufen und sich informieren könnten.
Das ist aktuell aber eher ein Gedanke bzw. Konzept und nichts, was bereits offiziell abgestimmt oder umgesetzt ist.
Zu deiner letzten Frage mit Eltern / Besuchern:
Da lautet die ehrliche Antwort: ja und nein
Einige Eltern kennen das Projekt gut.
Andere sehen zwar die Kisten oder Inhalte, können den Zusammenhang aber nicht direkt einordnen.
Dazu kommen natürlich auch Sprach- oder Kulturbarrieren, wodurch manches schlicht schwerer verständlich wird.
Auf der anderen Seite gibt es aber auch Eltern, die das Projekt aktiv unterstützen — zum Beispiel direkt über unsere Amazon-Wunschlisten.
Es gibt also definitiv Wahrnehmung und Unterstützung, aber eben sehr unterschiedlich ausgeprägt.
Und genau deshalb ist dein Gedanke absolut nachvollziehbar — weil das Thema Sichtbarkeit und Verständlichkeit tatsächlich ein spannender Punkt für die Zukunft ist

Regarding your questions:
How long the children can actually spend with the Kids Choice models depends on factors we cannot directly control ourselves.
The voting takes place as part of their stay in the so-called “Pieksezimmer” (our playful nickname for the room where blood checks and related preparation happen).
How much time is realistically available depends entirely on the individual treatment day, scheduling, and medical circumstances.
This is managed by the responsible assistant at the hospital, and we fully trust the hospital team to handle that in a way that makes sense and fits naturally into the real clinical workflow.
So there is no rigid “you now have X minutes” setup — it is intentionally integrated into normal hospital reality.
And yes — of course there will be an update afterwards
Once the voting is completed and all votes have been collected, we will absolutely share the outcome here with the community.
Regarding visibility inside the hospital:
That is honestly a bit of a mixed topic
The station itself, pediatric oncology, and even the chief physician know the project very well — we even once received a personal thank-you letter from him.
The wider hospital structure, however — such as larger marketing / PR departments or other administrative areas — currently knows much less about it.
To be honest, that simply was never the priority for us, because our focus was always on making sure the things arrive where they are actually needed.
That said, I do think this may evolve further in the future.
Exactly because of thoughts like yours, we are already considering ways to improve visibility a bit.
One idea would be something simple like a small QR-code stand or subtle information emblem that interested parents or visitors could scan to directly learn more about the project.
But to be clear: that is currently only an idea / concept, not something officially discussed, approved, or implemented yet.
As for parents and visitors:
The honest answer is: yes and no
Some parents know the project very well.
Others may see the boxes or the contents, but do not immediately understand the connection or background.
On top of that, language and cultural barriers naturally make communication harder in some situations.
At the same time, there are also parents who actively support the project — for example by helping through our Amazon wishlists.
So yes, awareness and support definitely exist — but they vary quite a lot depending on the situation.
Which is exactly why your thought is very understandable, because visibility and accessibility are genuinely interesting topics for the future

hm… ehrlich gesagt habe ich mir das irgendwie ganz anders vorgestellt… wann, wo und in welchem umfeld die kids die spielsachen anschauen und austesten können…
aber ich habe eben auch ganz genau garkeine ahnung wie dieser klinikalltag ausschauen mag… weder für die dort arbeitenden, noch für die kinder mit tagesterminen, geschweige für kinder im daueraufenthalt, mit und ohne dessen eltern…
ich habe mir das irgendwie “schöner/entspannter” vorgestellt als in einem behandlungszimmer… : ( in einem aufenthaltsraum zum beispiel oder in einem absehbaren zeitraum der frei ist…
aber wie schon geschrieben… ich habe keine ahnung wie das alles funktioniert zwecks aufenthalt, aufsehpflicht, mit oder ohne eltern anwesend…
von dem her wird das alles bestimmt so gemacht werden müssen und ist anders nicht realisierbar… aber irgendwie schade finde ich : (
zwecks der aufmerksambarkeit und hinweisung auf dein projekt…

ich glaube dass genau dieses “wissen aus erfahrungen” sehr wertvoll sein kann und den eltern das gefühl geben kann zu wissen “dass man nicht alleine ist”…

The last few days have been incredibly productive in the Pieksekisten print room
A whole new wave of contest entries made their way from digital files to real printed models — tested, assembled, photographed and prepared for the project.
What makes this especially wonderful is the variety. From clever puzzle games and fidget toys to playful creations and designs with emotional meaning — this contest really brought out amazing creativity.
A fantastic interactive fidget design with a really satisfying movement.
Print quality was excellent and the mechanism worked perfectly right after printing.
A super fun puzzle concept with lots of challenge variations.
The small pieces needed a little brim support, but after that everything printed beautifully.
A lovely idea that fits the Pieksekisten project especially well.
Turning something normally associated with discomfort into a friendly little companion is genuinely heartwarming.
The project website has now been updated again with the latest additions, including the new designer entries and all corresponding print photos.
And honestly… seeing this contest slowly turn into real physical objects that will eventually land in children’s hands is something special.
Some of the newest prints were pure fidget fun.
Some challenged the brain.
Some invited imaginative play.
Some simply made us smile the moment they came off the printer.
Exactly the kind of variety we hoped for.
But now comes the really exciting part.
Behind the scenes, something else has also been happening.
Print beds have been busy for a different reason.
A lot of testing.
A lot of retries.
A lot of “does this actually work in real life?” moments
Because while the public gallery keeps growing… another selection is quietly moving forward.
And let’s just say this:
The Top 3 prints are real. The Kids Choice candidates are real.
They’ve been printed.
Handled.
Tested.
Looked at from every angle.
No names yet.
No hints yet.
No spoilers
But the moment is getting closer.
And I have to say… seeing some of those designs physically in front of us instead of only on a screen has been genuinely exciting.
This contest has produced far more creativity than I think many people expected.
