Christmas contest is like

I approve of these extra entries to a better more well-thought contest description that could have brought a better crop of models with a smaller more refined list of entries.

Just add articulated legs and hands to anything and it’ll be sure to get lots of downloads and likes :joy::joy::joy::joy:

I’m trying to add articulated legs to my own body as they barely work any more.

One is partially paralysed, the other can’t hold my weight.

Moving around my house is hard and dangerous. Luckily, I’m only able to be upright for a few minutes at a time before I have to be back horizontal in bed, my prison if you will, in which I reside more than 23 hours a day.

Only existing to watch YouTube and share my designs and opinions until I finally (and hopefully soon) die.

Not sure what to say to that, other than I’m sorry to hear you are in this predicament, and also thank you for sharing your remaining time here with us.

i see a problem with just striking out stuff here… ok so the problem i think is that its all been done… how can one do a mass search for the same model you suspect of theft … example… i spent a long time working a model that i was going to enter into a contest just to find out it had been done 5 times before by other people… how does one search for an original idea if everyone else has done it?

That is a normal thing. 3D printing has been around for years. There is still space for inovating, but it will always fall into the likeness of another model. You just have to trust that your way of doing it is 100% functional and also prints well.

Look at one example. I made a fireplace for my yougest daughter and i found it cool. Nothing of too much work or worth of a prize but still, it was an idea and it also fit in the contest. And so i entered with only one model. Looked around and no fireplaces existed from the hundreds of contestants… yesterday someone came with a model of the same. What can i do? Nothing. I just know that my model prints well and that’s enough for me.

Approach it from a totally different perspective and design it for a different purpose that is not that common. Take for example how common objects like the scissors (The History of Scissors) come up to be, or the buttons (Button | History, Materials & Fashion | Britannica) … or the wheel (Who Invented the Wheel? An Ancient Tool With Modern Significance)

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel; all you need to figure out is if you can use it in a different way.

We made a list, if your thing was on it, move on.

Imagine having a contest where you were told, you can’t include these things.

The variety of models would be so much better. Far more thought, far less same as everyone else stuff.

I have no idea what you had considered (I think), but, I imagine it would have been good.

The great thing you did was say “I don’t add value to that mess of a contest”.

If the above list of not allowed was in place, your creativity would have exploded and the likelihood of anyone else with the same thing is greatly reduced and any that had the same theme would unlikely be the same.

You know what not that many (in fact they are very few) have come up with? An old fashioned Xmas full color lithophane that can be illuminated or framed and hung on a wall as a 3d painting … or creating a representation of one of your country’s (or other countries) cultural Xmas related traditions, stories,
legends, heroes (there are so many to choose from in each country, but I’d avoid the religious ones)…

and

are the perfect example of lazyness. Nothing to do with christmas and only renamed the files, a cut here and there and “tada”… amazing

just don’t do that kind of stuff and that’s it. Try your luck and just enter the contest.

That’s why i just entered with one model. I thought that we need creativity and not another articulated model that uses the same part as all the others. Download an articulated figure, edit the stl, cut the legs, stick a head in it, boolean, print, upload and done. Really, getting really tired of articulated and fidgets…they are everywhere :sob:
Or trees… who needs so much trees? I want intricate models, models with a thought, models that fit the relationship between “cozy” and “christmas”.

But… but… we need this articulated pinecone!!

I was jokingly thinking about adding an articulated poop emoji but of course, someone (a few actually) have already added these and of course have hundreds of downloads.

this is already a rule, it’s just not enforced. Contest winners have been reuploads/V2s before

I’ve been kicking around a couple of ideas, and you know I value you guy’s opinion… so if I only submit one which do you like more?
