Clock noise while bed is heating

Hello everyone,

I just entererd the 3D printing world two days ago. There are so many things for me to learn that I hope my question will not sound stupid …
At first start of my A1 printer I noticed a strange and for sure unwanted noise coming from the front left side of the printer.
This noise sounds like a “typical clock niddle noise”, its frequency depends on table temp : the closer to the target bed temp the lower the frequency is.
I did record a short video to have it clearer for everyone : https://youtube.com/shorts/aI3oJ2BvE5Y?feature=share
Is this sound normal on A1 printers ?
If not do you have any idea of the root cause ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Welcome Julien
There is no such thing as a stupid question. First of all I was not able to view you video, when i clicked on your link it tells me that it is private, don’t know if it is me or the link.

if your printer is new, it could be the heat plate just being broken in. I can’t remember if mine did that when it was new, but is doesn’t make an noise now after a couple hundred hours of use. How long does the sound last. Does it quit when the bed reached the correct temp.

It’s likely that that’s just due to differential thermal expansion and connected parts in the bed assembly are just sliding against each other. I hear this sound in all of my P1S printers. If the sound stops soon after the bed heats the target temperature, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Hello Locoman,

Thanks for your help.
This was definitively my first publication on YouTube, you should have access to the video now.
I hope this might help you to imagine what can happen.

Hello KYZ_Design

The video link should be fixed right now. The sound is so regular … It more feels like a relay sound or somewhat.
If you have a couple of second to check the video, you might compare with your P1S printer.
Thanks again for your support.

I see, that’s not the sound I was thinking about at all.

Isn’t that the sound of the nozzle touching the plate for the probing? The clicking seems to sync up

I agree. Just looks/sounds like the normal bed leveling process to me. However, it does sound a bit louder than mine. But that could just be the recording.

Thank you all for your support. I fully agree that the noise i am talking about is covered by the bed leveling process.
Below is a new video a bit clearer : sounds strange that bambu lab took so much care about noise cancellation to keep this awfull and frustrating noise .
But i will rely to your advise : if this is normal … i will live wirh it !! :grinning:

Best regards to all of you.

That is not normal, no. I’m not really sure what could be making that noise when they only things its doing is purging filament. My first thought was the extruder but it wasn’t moving when it was leveling the bed. I’d open a support ticket personally

Ok, that one is not normal since the head is not moving.

I have to agree, the noise is not normal. Something is rubbing under the bed but I don’t see anything moving so don’t know what ir is. Sounds like it is coming from the base housing and if so I don’t have a clue what it is. Suggest you get in touch with Bambu. Sorry I can’t help.

Once again thank you all for helping me sorting this out !
Following your advices I do have created a ticket.Up to now, I have been requested to remove the grey bottom panel fromthe base of the printer to easily identify the origin of this noise. Sadly, despite many efforts I did not succed to remove the cover, so lets see what next steps are. I will try to keep you inform anyway.
By the way …. I feel a bit uncomfortable with the request to dismantle alone a brand new product prsenting issues. This might scratch a bit the level of confidence in bambu lab. That is maybe common in the 3d printing world :grinning:

What you are dealing with is not common, rest absurd. I feel for you, dismantling a new machine, but if Bambu has requested you to take apart the printer for further investigation, it sounds like they aren’t sure where the noise is coming from. From what I see, this is a pretty complex machine and it’s amazing what it can do. I could sit and watch it all day long, moving across the plate, putting down the line of filament with such precision. Hopefully this issue will be resolved soon and you can start enjoying your adventure into 3D printing as I have. I bought mine last November, have printed over 200 hours with no problems, “knock on wood”. The nice thing about it, it has given me something else to do beside reading the depressing news. :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh, by the way. the tapping noise that the hot end is making, during the bed level test sounds normal to me. That other noise in the front, left corner of the base does not. Does that noise go away at some point. When does it start.
