Color Change Top and Bottom Only

Is it possible to have color changes on the top and bottom layers only. For example, I’m printing a flag that has red, white and blue and it is 10 layers high (2 mm). I would like layer 1 and 10 to be printed in red, white and blue, but layers 2 through 9 in white only. No need for extra color changes and the single color layer is stronger.

This is on an A1 mini with AMS Lite.

Just put a manual filament change in

In Studio slice the model.
On the right hand side you will see a slider that corrisponds to the layers. Move that slider down to the layer you want the change on and right click, select what you want. Then move it up to the last layers you want white and change the layers to white.

You can paint a model then do the change on the top as well. Same method

Thanks for the suggestion, but it won’t work in my case. Let me explain my design process.

I am using FreeCAD for the design. Using the part workbench, I create one extrusion for each color. The extrusions are all in the same plane and the same height.

Here’s a solution I found:

Export all the extrusions in one .3mf file. Import the .3mf file into Bambu Studio. This creates three objects. Merge them into an assembly. Center the assembly. In the object view select the desired filament for each object. Scale the assembly Z setting to the desired height based on the number of desired layers. Don’t modify the X and Y settings, but note them Add a generic-cube modifier to the assembly. Scale it to the X and Y of the assembly and set the Z to be two layers shorter than the Z of the assembly. Center it. Move the Z to be half the height of the main assembly. Set the generic-cube filament to the desired solid color. Slice and print.

i get ya. Didn’t see that you wanted to add white as well as the other colors to 2-9

If you made the height and position settings on your parts in FreeCAD, you can export the three parts already setup with the correct dimensions and offsets as three separate files.

Select all three parts in your file system and drag them to an empty Bambu Studio.

As it sees multiple files (this is the key) it will ask you if you want them all to be the same part, say YES.

All you dimensions and more importantly, your offsets for height in this case are identical to your design.

You only need to select them in the object view and choose a colour.

  • It’s faster
  • Your source CAD has all the correct values
  • You don’t have to remember to get it correct in the slicer
  • No need for primitives in the mix
  • No need to deal with BS centre based z-value
