Commercial License Transaction Fees are High!

For those who have gained members on Makerworld, would you please share what your transaction fees are?

Mine is as follows:

Subscription fee: 5 USD

  • Creator income: 3.76 USD
  • Platform commission: 0.5 USD
  • Transaction fee: 0.74 USD

That’s almost 25% gone!

I’m now wondering if I should just leave Makerworld commercial license and just stick to Patreon. On Patreon, my total deduction is usually 17%.

Edit: Some stickler didn’t like my wording so I’ve updated my post.

This is my first post on the forum, and I’m appalled by some of the toxic responses. I won’t be posting here again.

Just an FYI it isn’t all fun and games on Patreon either.

Omg I didn’t realized that! I just reviewed my monthly earning details on Patreon. Turns out I’ve been really lucky, and no one joined from the Apple app.

I would say on Patreon, my average deduction is 17%.

I haven’t used it, but I do know the payments are through Paypal which has both percentage based fees and flat fees per transaction. As such, the less you charge, the higher the relative percentage is that you pay in fees.

Makerworld’s fee is simply 10%, the rest is Paypal.

I’m aware of that, but Makerworld made it so that we can only use Paypal for commercial license.

Sounds like ETSY… they take 25-30%

it’s very much in line with patreon (through the browser) and other platforms out there, the term hiddens fees is misleading, as there isn’t anything hidden about it, payment processor fees always happen

In my case, it was about 15.2% total being taken in fees.

it’s 30 days hold  it’s their on the documentation when you sign up

They are not “hidden fees” unless you do zero research and just click “join” buttons.

Like I said above, on Patreon, my average deduction is 17%, so there is a huge difference for me.

While makerworld is transparent about the 10% deduction, it’s way harder to find out what the paypal fee is, which is why I used the word “hidden”. In fact, makerworld used an example of paypal transaction fee of 2% on their website. That’s misleading.

Thank you so much for being on the only person who answered my actual question.

How much is your monthly fee, for it to come down to 15.2% deduction in the end?

Nobody has hidden fees as they’re clearly stated, so your question has one answer for everyone: $0.

lmao. going on forums to make yourself feel superior and not actually contributing to anything -.-

Mine’s set at $20 - so the Makerworld fee was 10% - $2.00 and the Paypal fee was $1.04

paypal fees are listed on paypals website, you should have gave that a look when setting your membership, i get it that you might be surprised, but that’s really on you for not going through the information, that’s my call out here, there’s nothing hidden about it. For me it actually is very close net value here and on patreon

My original post never pointed fingers at anyone, but I expressed how surprised I was with the paypal transaction fee. I shared what mine is, and wants to know if others are willing to share theirs. The intention of my post is to find out for myself if sticking with Patreon makes more financial sense for me, vs charging a higher monthly fee on Makerworld.

I can never understand people who go online to put others down to make themself feel superior.

hmm that’s a weird one now… the title of the thread - which you have now changed - was complaining about hidden fees! now when people show that they aren’t and that you should be an owner of your actions you get offended? that’s pretty weird, but i guess i’m from a different generation…

don’t worry i won’t engage further as i don’t want you to feel inferior :man_shrugging:
