Do you have any information about the contest called ‘Magnificent Hometown’? I’m interested but didn’t quite understand the topic. How do you interpret it?
Hi michelem, thanks for your interest and continued support for our contest! For this theme, we kindly ask designers to first identify their hometown and select the element that best represents it to include in their submissions. This could be a landmark, a natural scenery, or a specific local product that truly embodies your hometown.
Let us know if its still unclear and we will further explain. We will also be looking to include theme descriptions onto our contest page in the coming updates.
Thanks again!
Great! Hope to make something stunning I love my hometown
And yes the description on upcoming contest would be really helpful.
Anything to let the thieves geolocate you is always helpful.
Google Prusa World. I’d link it here but im not sure that’s allowed anymore.
I was going to say similar, Malc. Not just hometown but that ends up being a lot of people’s place of birth too. That’s used on a number of things for security questions, etc.
Identifying hometowns and especially places of birth to a worldwide audience is just bad security juju.
As I haven’t been able to leave my home for the past almost 5 years now, I should create a model of a prison to serve as my hometown I guess.
Either you’re a bit paranoid, or you live in a town with only two inhabitants…
As long as you’re going to call names, either you’re a bit naive or have never learned much about identity compromises or information gathering online.
I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to insult anyone; it was just a joking comment. Anyway, I don’t understand your fear, but that’s just my point of view.
Not to get too off topic, I’ve been compromised hard by others not securing their data properly and have lots of free credit monitoring now, all credit reports locked, etc. It isn’t fun. And there are lots and lots of lessons from people oversharing on social media and making themselves targets for common thieves. Plus, there’s a computer security background in there too. It makes any calls for personal information stick out almost like I have synesthesia.
The problem is computers are amazing for sifting through tons of useless data in the blink of an eye to make associations and connections. Much is already pre-sifted by search engines but AI is absolutely going to play a big role in elf on a shelfing everyone, and not everyone with AI farms and access to data is friendly.
I’m sure I am paranoid to an extent but it is with good reason, so my first reaction to being called paranoid for raising the flag with Malc was to respond similarly. Sorry about that.
The solution is to just submit for hometown somewhere but not anyone’s own home town and certainly not the city where people were born. I’ve been asked that for security questions multiple times. It’s valuable information that can be leveraged into access to a number if things. The more people can do to obfuscate what is known about them online by others/strangers, the better. (IMO)
Cool contest. Can’t wait to come up with something fun for my hometown…
Hmmmm not sure what best represents my city though–I’ll have to think of something lol.
How about Lambeau Field? lol
Obviously the two million paper mills you guys have in your city. How is that even a question?
A wedge of cheese that transforms into Brett Favre.
We had the army bomb disposal unit bow up multiple cars for parking where they shouldn’t near sensitive locations as they were each deemed potential IRA car bombs.
As we all know, one bomb stops another bomb, right!
The U.K. mainland was a constant target when I was a child, particularly in my town (one of many).
So, some explosives or a car in many, many pieces.
