When I split an object, is there a way to control which subsequent parts stay in the plate and which gets shuffled away?
Thanks.

âShuffle awayâ can be two things
âPlace on cutâ checkbox during the cut will make the flat plane of your cut become the new Bottom Surface. Studio will realign it that way after you cut. Uncheck those checkboxes if thatâs not what you want, or just manually rotate them back to a position you like. FDM printing loves a flat plane to be the bottom, so thats defaulted.
Bambu studio (and its open source brethren) tend to force a model to touch the build plateâs Z at least on ONE point/surface. A model can be one or more âpartsâ though, so if you check the âCut to partsâ checkbox, it will retain the Z position after you cut. Youâll need to select the sub-model âpartsâ in the Process â Objects â list of stuff to individually manipulate them.
If you are talking about the Cut tool in Bambu Studio, the resultant two parts of the cut operation are labeled and color-coded as ObjectA (blue) and ObjectB (purple). Uncheck the object that you donât want, then perform the cut. The other object (still checked) will be the only part that remains on the plate.
I want both pieces. i am cutting out a center piece on 4 sides, and then after I print that center piece, I need to re-combine the outer 4 parts together to print them
Itâs not quite clear what you want. But if I understood it correctly, you will check the âCut to partsâ option and will make such cut 4 times. Donât move any parts until you have completed the 4 cuts. Then swicth to Object and click to expand the original model stl and see the 9 parts that are the result of the 4 cut operations. Click at each of the parts until you see the center piece is highlighted (selected), then move that center piece out side of the model. The other pieces should still print together as one piece since they are still in contact with each other. If the center piece also fits on the same plate, you can print it along with the other parts.
Got it. I didnât know how cut to parts worked, as visually nothing changes.
The reason Iâm doing this is that there is a skinny tower that wonât print well. So I am printing it horizontally, which worked well. Hopefully the city and the tower will fit well after printing. Not sure if I should print a very small gap for when i recombine the tower with the city.
Anyway, thanks much.
