Correct way

Hi all,
on the p1s, after pressing “factory reset” do you have to do a “full calibration” or can you immediately use the printer without problems?
Factory Reset already does the bed leveling and vibration compensation…

The simple answer is: After removing the packing screws and cutting the cable ties, follow the instructions and go forth and print with reckless abandon, no calibration needed. Or at least that’s what Bambu claims. :smirk:

If you’re new to 3D printing, you might not immediately notice the difference between a default print and one that is truly dialed-in. However, as you gain experience, you’ll refine your preferences and start to see what works and what doesn’t. Having climbed that mountain myself, let me lay out the pros and cons of filament tuning.

Pros

  • You can achieve print quality that rivals molded parts.
  • Right now, you might be overpaying for Bambu filaments—spending up to 60% more. But with proper filament tuning, every spool can perform like a $20 spool or better. I typically spend $10–$13 per spool with free shipping on Amazon with 1- to 2-day delivery, and if a spool doesn’t tune well, I simply return the unused portion at no cost.
  • There’s an immense sense of satisfaction in knowing you beat the game.
  • Even better, there’s the confidence of knowing “You got this!”

Cons

  • If you’re the TL;DR type, tuning isn’t for you. It takes time to dial in each new vendor’s filament. That said, over time, you’ll build a solid library of go-to settings.

My p1s has about 900 hours of work, even though I only print as a hobby. Recently for unknown reasons, during a print, the toolhead hit the front right corner of the printer, as if it suddenly decided to do a “Homing”
Luckily I was there, and I turned off the printer with the red switch on the back of the printer.
Now, I wanted to try to do a “factory reset” but I wanted to do it the correct way… that’s why I asked the initial question about the “correct way”

It’s been quite while since I’ve setup or re-calibrated my printer, but I think the bed leveling and vibration compensation is all a calibration does. If you do those steps as part of the restore you are good to go.

Calibration is a separate menu item so that you can re-calibrate without doing the full factory restore. I use it if I do anything that might cause the printer to vibrate differently, like move the printer to a different bench or stiffen a shelf. When I added a riser, moved the spool holder to the side, and started storing filament on top of my non-AMS X1C, I re-calibrated the printer to compensate for the different weight loading.

Be aware that Restore factory settings does erase any filament calibrations stored on the Device tab. You might want to record those for manual input later.

I had a similar idea but I wanted an opinion from experts…
Yes I saw that after the “factory reset” the K value of the filaments was reset but for me it’s not a problem… as I said I’m just a hobbyist and I have few types of filament.
