"Crackeling" Sound when heating up

Hey!

My P1P arrived 2 days ago, and I love it. But one thing bothers me: The first print went smooth and everything was normal. The next print and EVERY print after that now as a “crackeling” sound when I start it (and the first minutes into the print) - It sounds like the heatbed is making this sound, or something beneath it.

Is this an normal behavior? Maybe the first print didn’t have it because the bed was perfectly aligned from the factory…well, at least now I have it, and it sounds a bit like a car exhaust cooling down (to paint a picture  ).

Thanks to everybody for tips, or even a “this is normal, just ignore it”, which would ease my mind

Many regards from germany

Not normal. I’m at a loss for ideas, though.

What kind of filament and is it and has it been dried?

Hey Matt :wave::smile:

The filament used was the original provided, fresh out of its sealed foil. Since the crackeling sounds are audible before any extrusion is happening, i think the filament isn’t the problem here. Your printer doesn’t do the same, i suppose?

No. Take a video and post it up.

Hey again!

So I took a video of the starting procedure of the printer:

The sound is audible multiple times at start, for exampe at

Mine too “clicking” at the time of warming, the part under the hotbed does it. Stops it when the hotbed warmed up. Does it at the time of getting cold for me.

Both of my P1P’s do this and I believe it’s normal

Sounds like the normal thermal expansion between different materials. If you want to know where it comes from, you could try to unlock the heat bed from the frame and heat it. So you could see if it is the bed itself, the frame or the connection between.

Hello guys!

Thank you all so much for checking the video - so it is what i thought it was. Maybe the first print (the benchy on the micro sd card) was printed without a heated bed, and that’s the reason i didn’t have the clicking there.

Well, now I’m glad nothing is broken, and i can enjoy my new printer even more. I already printed some toys for the kids, it’s amazing how fast this thing is (i have an older creality CR 10, but i stopped printing on it two years ago, because it was so slow. The bed leveling sensor i installed made it more convenient, but I’m not very patient in these things )

Again: „thank you“ to all who took the time and replied. What a friendly and helpful community :+1:

Hi, It’s been about a month from your last post, have you noticed any problems with the cracking noise?

hey brandon!

No, I mostly ignore id. The support also came back to me and said this would be a normal thing and I should ignore it, so i did

Many regards!
