Cracking noise after first layer inspection

Hello together!

I have the BambuLab X1C now since three weeks and so far I am pretty happy with it. But I have one problem that concers me a little.

Every time after the first layer inspection, when the nozzle is moving away from the cleaning station, there is one pretty bad cracking noise, as if the nozzle get’s caught somewhere.

Has anybody else experienced this problem or even has a solution for this?

Looking forward for your answers!

Best regards!

I think what you are hearing is the nozzle wiper and/or filament chute. The filament chute door is triggered by the toolhead which will hit the black lever to drop purged filament down behind the back of the printer. If you haven’t got a “poop bucket” there and you’ve been printing for a while, get ready for a surprise when you look behind
The wiper is a plastic part with a piece of PTFE that deflects when the nozzle runs over it (to clean off any stuck filament). Then it springs back. Both make a bit of noise.

Hey Rick!

Thanks a lot for your reply, although I am pretty sure, that this is not what’s happening (or what’s making the sound).

I now finally caught it on video: https://youtu.be/iWf5XP2V11g?si=uIeuSCnSVCzYK_eC (cca second 12).

Can you identify that?

Thanks!

It’s the little door/lever at the top of the poop shoot being opened. Totally normal.

It’s possible the trap door is sticking before closing. Does it also make the noise when you do a filament load?

I have to check that with the trap door. This sound only happens after inspection of the first layer, not after a filament load/change.

I have the same cracking sound after the first layer inspection, when the nozzle is moving away from cleaning station.

@MMK Have you found out what the problem is? That cracking sounds really scary…

Not yet… Keep you updated.

The sound you hear comes from the waste chute as the print head moves forward and shoots out from under the back of the print head housing.

Mine X1C has this since new, nothing to worry about from what I have read.

It sounds scary, but nothing to worry about.

Hello Guys!

I have now observed several prints and the noise occurs every single time.

I’m now pretty sure that the tool head is getting stuck at the part marked in red in the picture (I don’t know the name of the part, sorry). Picture

I’m not convinced that this is intentional…

I’m curious to hear what you think!

It’s normal. They all do that.

I just bought mine and had the same issue, it’s a screw that is loose. If you tighten it up it will stop cracking

Congrats on your new printer. I’m happy for you that you could solve the issue.
As my problem was fixed by an firmware update some months ago, I don’t think we had the same issue.
