Custom DIY desk for X1CC

Howdy mates,
I fumbled together a small footprint desk/cabinet for my X1CC twins.

I would love to see, if you want to share your custom built furniture/solutions!

Also would appreciate your thoughts good or bad, it would mean a lot and help me to improve it and tweak it since it is not completely finished yet, this is a test run before finish and laquer and such stuff. So any feedback is appreciated, even if you hate it tell me why since I figure you know something critical I missed.

I set a few qhouls which explains how I got here.
1/ Budget and recycling (trippled this and am at like 250 euros/dollars)
2/Small footprint
3/Easy access to stuff
4/Hidden storage
5/Easy to move and access 360 degrees for service and all that stuff you know
6/lockable casters (also not only spin but lockable orientation for rock solid)
7/Solid chassi (welded)

(Lightweight heavy duty steel square profile. Took flex/weight/max weight ratios steel/aluminium framework)

8/lotsa work surfaces, preferable hideable / ez accessible/retractable
9/Adjustable height
10/some hideable cable tweaks & simple on off button for the entire disaster…
Well ill shutup here, you probably thought way further than me since this is literally THE FORUM for creative inventive people!

I built a small footprint cabinet for my printers and organize som stuff (well what I could fit) welded a rock solid frame (insanely solid compared to the masonite painted crepe furniture) I had some ideas and I’m just assembled it temporarily to check out any bugs or upgrades before final assembly. But if you see anything that needs to be fixed I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
(I was on a budget and tried to use some secondhand wood/metal but the square profiles, rollers for the drawers, screws, one plywood board and 6 double furniture wheels each rated to 120kg still brought it to 260ish Euro/Dollars sigh I aimed for a third but it still looks like el cheapo teabagged something from the secondhand store sale.)
So any feedback or upgrades or troubles/errors you can nail down for me would be greatly appreciated mate!

Tried to build on the height and leave a small footprint

Maybe more visible frontal shot?
Put 6 sets of dual caster wheels that are lockable on the bottom (each rated for 120kg x 6 Total 720kg guaranteed. They not only lock the wheels but they are locked from turning 360 wise when locked)

Furthest down I put a retractable and also removable roll-holder. Made the slider myself due to budget limitations, smooth as butter. Right now theres 48 rolls down there, the casterwheels makes it extremely snappy to pull out and organize/fetch stuff from the behind orientation. Also gives a quick way to do 360 degrees maintenance all around the printers. Less than 10 secs to pull out and even turn around and push back in.

Bottom drawer, front flips out as workspace.

Still draws out of course…

Top pulls out as a very solid workbench, the bearing bars are rated for 100kg each (how much truth that is…?)

Workbench flips up and locks the open drawer in place, have not sorted stuff/organized (sorry, bad english or should I say Swenglish :space_invader: ) Oh and that is a Yes, the space is designed to fit BambuLabs OEM boxes of spare parts and stuff as you probably noticed. Right now is everything shoveled in waiting for sorting.

Top drawer pulls out, I made it to hold the acute spare parts for the printers. Not organized yet. Budget flaw I made the tilting drawer myself since I ran out of budget x 3 to have a more organized overview of the contents.

The top shelf for the AMS twins are settable and lockable, as in you can crank the shelf up/down lock it down (dual locks) Unfortunately when my OCD ambushed me I drilled two holes and put in two roof screws to have a third locking mechanism making it hmm no more solid I guess but… just because… though that came back and bit me in my fat chrysemantemum, one of the hardened screws broke off and snapped flush with the square iron pipe and cannot be drilled out, so I need to dissassemble the entire efing thing to unlock and restore the tweak possibilities sigh

Theres some other “secrets” like the cable canals, magnetic dothingeys and crepe but thats probably not relevant to the problem at hand. Which I will get back to in next reply-post, thanks for your reply mate and kind effort to figure out the bug here

Oh yeah, should probably tell that the filament storage is actually on the opposite corner of the room, much to my boss joy (g/f) here;

And I would never hide any additional rolls that I not had the greengo to buy in other crevaces of my mancave (bigboy-cave?!? sorry, bad english mates, haha)

Final finish will probably be rosewoodish on all wood parts and red or green hammerite on everything steel.

Looks really cool, nice job!

This is a beautiful piece of work. From the aesthetic to the functionality, it is awesome. Very nice! I must ask though, does the part where the printers sit allow for you to extend it forward? Also, can you advise what the added device is, on the side of the AMS?

Thanks mate, much appreciated!

Howdy mate, thanks!

In reply to your Questions;
1/ The very top with the printers is not made to pull out since I figured the high center of weight of the printers could have some slight chance of making the cabinet tip over if I pulled them out. Further I concluded that such a feature would have no benefits whatsoever.
Instead the entire thing is on e-z rollers

and extremely light to pull out to access the printers behind/360° degrees.
NOTICE: Instead theres an tabletop just below the top holding the printers, is on bearings that simply snaps out and voila you have a heavy duty workspace/tabletop in front of the printers while still able to open the printerdoors.

(Btw, Also I extended the front “legs”/contact points 20cm/8inches forward displacing the center of weight,

in plain english I can pull out the retractable workbench and SIT ON IT without tipping it over. It was my ghoul reference weight  the workbench should bear)
Sorry for the lengthy answer but it was the full answer in reply to your question. :face_with_peeking_eye:
2/ The things on the side of the AMS’s is a “side spool hanger” with rollers and PTFE mount to connect to a splitter.

(If you mean the electronic usb power hub from Amazon.se between the AMS’s it is for powering the 4000k natural led-powerstrips I added to the printers/X1CC’s to illuminate the built in cameras. Have some lightstrips that are going to go beneath the drawer above and add an extra angle/additional light.
In that case I think it is this one, quality so-so, one port already croaked.
Amazon.se)

My English is so-so, I hope that my Swenglish is decipherable?

PS I tried to find the link to the side spool thingie on my cellphone without any amazing success. I see if I bookmarked the link when I get back home this weekend and edit it in for you.

I can see that you have put a lot of time and effort into creating this workarea and I think you’ve done a damn fine job. With the beautiful grain in the wood, a natural finish would look great on it. And your “Swenglish” is no problem. I sometimes let my Texan dialect get loose.

Looks awesome. Thank you for showing!

Looks great nice bit of carpentary

Thanks mate,
I love natural wood grain too.
Also thanks for your kind and positive feedback, means a lot to me!

I play COD (Call of Duty) together with my team, Marie is your average Texan maga granny armed to her teeth, Gerry is your average drunken Irishman always with a potato in his pocket to lure the irish women in and I am the Swedish fifth wheel in our COD team. Together we are the absolute worst team of gamers ever to loose every match since the creation of COD online.
So I like Texans, Marie carried us since start! If you see her shoutout from me will ya mate! :+1::partying_face::+1:
(Shes the lady with the Trump cardboard cutout riding shotgun waving an 8" 44Magnum at the oncoming trafic. Possibly having an visiting Irish prick tied down on the back of the truck screaming something about more Whisky and nuns…)
