I like the AMS, but I’m frustrated by the idea that I can setup custom filaments in the studio, but can’t seem to get them to load in the AMS. I’m using mostly E-Sun PLA Plus, I find that it’s easy to print, and gives me the strength I need without resorting to other more finicky materials.
Over time I’ve customized the nozzle settings so I get consistent prints, but I can’t figure out how to get the AMS to load any of my settings from Bambu Studio. It would be nice to have those settings transfer over.
Am I missing something or does Bambu have this portion of the AMS locked down?
Filament settings get applied by slicing.
The ams filament is to this point only used for color, material selecting & providing a temperature for un-/loading via the un-/load button.
I agree with both of the comments here. What I’ve found works best is when you load the filament in the AMS just set the color. Then manage all filament settings on the slicer and make sure to NEVER sync with the AMS. I’ve found that if the colors are similar between the AMS and the slicer then it will pick the correct AMS location automatically. If it doesn’t then you can manually pick the correct AMS slot location at print time.
I agree that it’s dumb to do it this way. I’m guessing they are trying to pull an Apple and get you to buy filament from them vs a third party. At least they sell reasonably priced filament vs the overpriced ■■■■ from Apple.
The way that I address this is to specify / use the filament settings file (which could be standard or custom) which I want to use when the part is printed using an AMS, and to map these filament settings to a specific spool in the AMS. Using the Bambu Studio slicer, PREPARE the part, specifying filament settings and colors, PREVIEW the part by slicing it, then generate the code using the PRINT PLATE output option. A “send print job to” dialog box will appear showing the designed part at the top, and just below that small boxes (one box for each color in the design) will appear showing the mapping of the design colors (on top) and just below that (on the bottom) the mapping to a color in the AMS. Most of the time the design will use colors that are present in the AMS. But on the rare occasion that’s not the case, click on the lower portion of the box to specify the AMS color to be used to print the design’s color. The AMS filaments will use the filament parameters specified in the design (in the PREPARE tab).
I find that I am lazy, and when I print a second print in the same material, buth with a different colour, the AMS will always go to 250 C to load the filament ( even for PLA ) and sometimes even uses that for printing ! I need to manually reset the temp twice; before and after 1st layer inspection.
Would be good enough for me if I could use a hex editor and and add custom profiles in Studio and then be able to sync them to the AMS ( brandname and temps are now greyed out ).
No timelaps in LAN only mode, I know is a “registration” part of the webcam, but I have bought a seperate webcam for this…
Beying able to add cusom filements is what I miss the most as a feature at the moment…
I just updated the printer firmware yesterday and got the latest public beta of Bambu slicer.
am on Bambu Studio v1.8.1 Beta and my printer is on firmware 1.7 and I still cannot seem to specify that the filament in the AMS is one of my custom filaments I have added in Bambu slicer.
On the device tab in Bambu Studio, in the bottom right-hand corner is the AMS Unit/s and tool area. When loading a new filament it allows you to choose custom color by pallet. Once you have created the new custom color there is a button that says, “Define Custom Colors>>”. This button is grayed out and therefore will not respond when you click on it. I have read through the associated wiki for this issue (as best I can tell, and by following links to those wiki-pages). It discusses syncing to the cloud and tells you to make sure you have chosen to use the cloud in the settings. The very next link to the issue tells me that unless I have changes the settings to LAN only mode Bambu Studio defaults to this setting and there is no “toggle switch” (their words) to adjust. But the first wiki said that was most likely the reason the button was grayed out and unavailable.
Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to talk to an actual person, or at least chat online with someone working for Bambu Lab.
I digress. I simply want to be able to choose a custom color, and then save that color as a particular brand, which in my case the brand I wish to choose most of the time has recently had a print profile added with certain presets associated with it. PolyTerra/PolyMaker/etc. I then want to save the name of the color and the shade I chose from the pallet so it will pop up as an option when loading the filament in the future. It seems to me this would be the place to do that I don’t see where any settings are actually changed as far as filament or bed temps, etc, from one type of PLA filament to another anyway, and it won’t let you simply modify these temps either. I know there are other places it can be done from, but why not here? And why is the option grayed out and unavailable? I find this a lot in Bambu Studio, various features do not work. It is difficult to complain too much when the software is free, but why frustrate the customer and have the button there at all?
Has anyone been able to save a color, including the color name and if needs be, the manufacturer? If this is operator error I can live with that. It would (again) be great if you could ask these questions directly to someone with Bambu Lab. Or if the wikis were not so contradictory and difficult to search for relevant content when you need it.
So please, if anyone can help I would appreciate it greatly!
