Cut Menu in Studio

In the cut menu there is the option for Connectors. In the Connectors set to Dowel there are options for Depth ratio and to its right and unnamed setting and Size and again an unnamed setting to its right. What is their functions? In particular When I select Dower and use the default settings the dowels printed are slightly too long and do not allow the two cut sections to connect.

It’s hard to visualize exactly what you mean without a screengrab, however, if I were to hazard a guess, I think your may be referencing the “tolerance” feature. If you hover over the field, the slicer will popup a hint message.

  • Size = diameter of the dowel or if it were a plug, the broad side dimension
  • Depth = how far a gap it protrudes into the solid body.
  • Tolerance = Think of this like the X-Y hole compensation feature works, if you put in 0.25mm, it will shrink all the edges of the dowel/plug in all directions. So a dowel would shrink 0.5mm since it has two sides and 0.5 on the top and the bottom. This is to compensate for filament expansion and leave room for the dowel to fit.

The bottom line on all these sorts of features is to try it out on a square cube and experiment with large values, it will become really obvious when you do that.

Thank you./ That was exactly what I needed… As I understand you the size " tolerance" shrinks the dowel width while the depth “tolerance” increases the hole depth? I’ve already rune the exact experiment and got the results. It would be nice if somewhere in the Wiki Bambu manual this was explained. Again thank you for your help. In the future I’ll include a picture of the issue. BTW I’ve found a way of eliminating “supports” in certain situations thus cleaning up and speeding up the printing process… As soon as I fully dope it out I’ll post it with pictures.
