Cut without lose painting?

I was using a model that had separate parts that had different color filaments assigned and not colored with the paint tool. Cutting with models like that did work with the older version but do not work any more. You are correct, if the paint tool is used then the colors will disappear when the cut tool is used even with the older version of Bambu Studio.

I hate to resurrect a thread but wonder if anyone’s seen a fix for this? I’m using 1.10.1.50 and looks like the issue’s still there :frowning: Any workarounds?

seems that Olias is being sanctimonious at best. He gave no answer, but instead chose to criticize. There is no clear answer for this and maybe someone with his supposed vast expertice would have the answer to cut an object and retain the color schemes

Is there any update to this? I just did my first cut and…well…glad I saved first cause it destroyed an hour of painting. I’m no Bambu Studio 1.10.1.50

Right click on object, add negative part, solved!

I’m not sure what you mean. I haven’t used that function before but testing it out, it looks like the negative part only subtracts from the mesh.

Are you suggesting to duplicate the mesh then add apposing negative parts?

That doesn’t solve the issue because it would be too easy to misalign things. Also, with the cut function, a large positive of it is the auto generated connectors.

This doesn’t solve the issue with the paint colors being destroyed when using the cut tool.

I agree on both counts  @BambuLab maybe some feedback?

No I’ve got the same issue with the 1.10.2.76…

How is the autism? You are pretty rude and you will try to justify it as blunt.

how does that help you cut an item without losing its hand painted?

Its almost like it worked before, then they removed it. How is that not on the software developer?

I know my solution will not work in all use cases, but this worked for me:
If you want to just remove the bottom layers of your print making it more planar to print, you can add a part (a little cube for example), this will allow you to move your print below the bed, and the slicer will ignore this part in the actual print

My first post ever here, just wanted to say thank you as this did the trick for me.

Also, @Olias - take your issues elsewhere. As a new user this thread actually solved my problem. Your original response was unhelpful and unnecessary, as with each of your subsequent responses. Your incomprehension of why this question might be asked is your problem alone, this thread did actually serve a purpose and helped (me especially), so your ā€œstraightforward queryā€ angle is invalid. Learn how to human better.

I try 1.07.07.89 but cutting without loosing paintings is not working in this version.

Might be a bit late to this but…
If you right click on an object and select a negative part, you can essentially take a chunk out of your model in any shape you want.
It removes it during slicing and creates a hole the size of the negative part.
Hope this helps

Liam_V this worked great. I wanted to do testing of some smaller areas of my painted model before I sent the full thing. Thanks.

Maker lab created a really cool model that was painted exactly as i wanted. First print attempt failed quickly. Turns out wasn’t laying flat on plate because AI made bumps on rear. Spent hours trying to cut it flat but each time I did all painting disappeared…pulled my hair out for several hours before finding this post and a couple video’s related. Used your method of adding a small shape off to the side. Merging 2 items. And was able to trick the image and drag it slightly below the plate effectively cutting off the bumps without losing my paint scheme…thank you so much for taking the time to post this. I was nearly ready to give up on this model. Much appreciated.

Thank you! I did exactly the same workflow, and wasted some hours until realize this, glad to help. There no point on more of us wasting hours in the same trap

Have the same question. I have a model I am trying to cut in half that is painted. It is too long to fit onto the build plate. I have tried adding a negative part. This does not do anything but add the part. After cutting the part, it still loses the original painted colors. Again, the part is too big/long to fit on the build plate to start with. I have 12 parts to split into two parts. Any help would be great. I am continuing to look for options for this issue. Thank you in advance. If it helps, this is the model in question at 250% (Donnager Class from the Expanse by martin.taichl MakerWorld: Download Free 3D Models).

It’s just like every other forum. You get a couple of seasoned folks that decide they are better than everyone else and suddenly they have no tolerance for anything. They want you to spend hours searching through forum posts instead of asking a question so they aren’t burdened by having to read said question. I’m with another poster here. If the question annoys you, disregard and move along. You aren’t required to answer and certainly nobody wants to read your jerky response.
