Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a serious factory defect I ran into on my Bambu A1, and warning signs you should look out for.
A few days ago, my printer threw error codes 1200-8007 (Failed to extrude) and 12FF-2000-0002-0007 (Filament location not found). The extruder started clicking loudly, and the toolhead began shuddering violently along the X-axis.
When I took it apart, I found a dangerous issue: the four internal assembly screws holding the heater block assembly had backed themselves out entirely from the factory. This caused the hotend heating assembly to drop and sag out of position while hot, leading to severe heat bleed that completely melted the plastic toolhead carriage housing.
I opened a support ticket, but as someone who isn’t highly computer literate, the portal was a complete nightmare. I struggled to move logs and photos between my phone and computer, and I couldn’t even change my details due to that annoying 1970 system date glitch on their website.
Despite successfully submitting my logs and photos, Bambu Lab support closed my ticket because I couldn’t provide a video of the printer running. The machine was physically melted and dangling by its wires—trying to run it for a video would have been an extreme safety hazard! Because they refused to help, I had to buy the replacement parts and rebuild the entire toolhead myself.
Please check the screws behind your hotend assembly to make sure they aren’t loose! Has anyone else had support close a safety ticket just because a machine was too broken to safely film?
