I totally agree. But not because I think it’s a remixe. Just because if I did well understood the situation, OP’s print profile doesn’t add anything to the original print profil. You can print multicolor print in one colour. It’s even a bbl recommendation in the guide lines if I remember well.
Yeah I have the same mixed feeling about this.
But IMO, technically, the designer is in his right and can prevent users from uploading print profiles under this licence. And I don’t like that, it’s kind of counter productive.
And I’m astonish to see that so many models are under standard digital files licences on MW. It’s weird to me for free models. But hey! everyone is free to do what ever they want
I apologize man, none of this was ever my intention. I didnt initially link your model as I didnt want to call you out. I was just trying to get some input before responding to your message. i never expected it to get this far, i figured id get a response or two while out running errands but clearly its gotten a little out of hand and I am sincerely sorry for that.
Because every other license option provided allows for anyone to take the model and re upload it anywhere and everywhere.
I put some of mine to standard while adding to the description that selling physical prints is still allowed. I would just rather anyone who wants the files, to obviously get them from me.
I’m mainly coming from the perspective of, we’ve all gotta live in this fish bowl together, so should do our best to try and respect each other’s boundaries. When it comes to stuff like this, I think people can be technically correct, but that doesn’t always mean morally correct. I ask myself, like yeah maybe I’m technically within guidelines, but is what I’m doing brewing bad blood?
I’m a bit all over the place. Certain designs I start out as a standard digital license, but I get request and stuff for remix, so tend to soften things after a bit. I think of it as like the object’s exclusive period, I guess.
Seriously, to both of you, you walked into a lions nest of debate that is constantly going on, and asked opinions. I think we stayed pretty civil this time!
We’ve got a bit heated before too, but then you also reminded me that out there on Makerworld, we’re working together; might argue some points, but we’re not enemies.
Yeah you can require attribution, or prohibit commercial use. But they can still be re uploaded anywhere, including sites that provide financial rewards.
Yes it might be possible to do that on some plateforme. But it’s not true on printables for example. Reuploads don’t earn points.
And I rather prefer to share my free models under a license that allows remixing and sharing. The 3d printing community would be so sad if that wasn’t the norm
wonder how you would think/feel about it if you came up with something great “colorful” and someone came along and just made it black and that’s it.
just so I’m sure, what you are saying is that you decide what colors we can print a file you made in. I hope I’m wrong but that’s how it sounds to me.
I have already been asked if I could make a simple file and have said that you only need to change the colors. I see this more as a help so that others can practice using the slicer and get the desired result.
dude ppl are lazy and print profiles primarily use it not to be imported to a slicer, its to be used from the app. ppl are lazy, that’s just how the world is today.
If you upload a model on this platform, you accept how it works. part of makerworld is printprofiles where someone else also gets a small amount of points. if its a problem to you that other ppl get some points for making a profile, make a better profile, that’s how the game works, if u don’t like it upload it to other platforms.
When is something a remix, well it would be when you alter the model’s shape.
In this case, I don’t see a problem with what @goldiesvinyl did. the model is 100% identical, it’s a matter of parts color that’s it!

you just do for it, man!
the more profiles on my models the more downloads I will get so its more points for me, and even if I did not get a single point from it I would still not care as I will still get exposure to my models and there for my profile and I end up making some ppl happy with what I made! if I wanted to make money/points/ or anything from a model it would not be here or on any platform other than a website selling a printed version or a license to print and sell.
that being said I think it’s fine to respect requests from designers, even it there is no valid reason to it if you feel like doing it, but don’t do it due to ppl crying over something they clearly don’t understand.
this was in no way a remix it was a color change that’s it.
