Dev mode is just a way for them to take zero responsibility for anything in the future. It still holds that if you dont comply you dont get to use your machine.
This quote “This “Developer Mode” is a good first step, and likely would not have been included had we not spoken out strongly with our words and our money.” is no first step. Its bait and switch.
We might want to only focus on using our money a lot more because our words are getting us no where.
If we give up control to the machines we bought it will only get worse from there on.
Law? An EULA is not a law. We’re discussing an EULA, telling the company we don’t like it. Do they have to change it? Nope. But you’re just making stuff up. I bet you’re one of those guys that wont cut the tag off your mattress, but at the same time pretend to hack networks.
This is lawful-evil behavior. L0rdS474n should be chaotic-evil.
127.0.0.1 I left a port open, you should know it. Come say hi. I have an 8 hour print going. I’m inviting you, so you dont have to worry about repercussions.
Apologies if this has been discussed before: why is the developer mode only available in LAN mode only? I would love to be able to retain the bambu handy functionality, while adding extra ones on top!
Because the so called “Developer Mode” was made to allow for LAN only mode, following the community backlash on Bambu’s imposition on the users of its latest crapware (under the guise of “network security patch“) called Bambu Connect, that force users to print only via Bambu’s cloud. If one chooses to use the developer mode, the cloud-based functionality is (theoretically) stopped (though it has been multiple times documented by multiple users that even in developer mode, Bambu machines continue to call home and send unauthorized data packages to various servers).
Also, Bambu made it clear that once one goes developer mode, one waves a number of things, otherwise provided if using Bambu’s cloud.
I found several. Many I never wish to open again. “Orca slicer or die!” and the like I refuse to revisit. Just paranoia and fighting back and fourth. I read one where a user posted screens of a X1 supposedly calling home. The white paper doesn’t support that, and I can say any IP is the X1 without showing the proof it’s the X1 so I’ll pass.
After the fake X1 sending blah blah blah back(3D Musketeers) and it’s packets had been intercepted, then torn apart (back when I did read Reddit) I stopped believing unless absolute irrefutable proof. Not claiming that BL printers send info back in LAN. Just saying I haven’t read convincing documentation of it.
I’ll keep looking. Keep reading. Just currently not convinced.
Here are a few posts, with screenshots and details, posted on this forum. There are more users posting similar info, just need to digg them out searching. Some are long term bambu users, some are newer. Personally, I can’t pass judgment on all of them of being paranoid, or going over the hill, based on what they say and show, but I tend to concur with the observations made by several of them.
That being said, and before posting a few reference links for you to check out, do remember that the best (and most irrefutable) proof comes only from your own machine. That means that you need to check on your machine if indeed is calling home and/or sending out unauthorised data packages when in developer mode.
After 5 months in LAN/Dev mode, the X1C continues to try and call home, and to communicate with various other addresses which I then audit. Some are trackers like akamai, but the others are interesting… They seem to be small edge-connected service providers, leading me to ask what do they have in common? I’m leaning towards them using a common hardware platform which has been backdoored at the source ie Hauwei. Also ie, latent botnet.
Also still working to understand the mechanism whereby the X1C obtains the destinations to ping: was it hardware installed or is it a passive IoT receiver. Or both? At least one recent destination address has been offline for several months.
I continue to see the X1C ping e.bambulab.com immediately after I refresh either this forum or makerworld.com. I need to understand how; my VMs are adequate for the task.
The only surefire way to isolate from bambu.world is to never go there.
