When I am using the slicer, I have no idea which device is selected. I have 3 printers and I don’t know which printer or AMS I am looking at until I click on the device tab. I wish I could just see which printer I have and change that printer from the slicer tab. When I change a printer it would be nice if it changed the printer in the slicer to the one I have selected. Too many times have I tried to print and then it tells me that I have a different printer selected.
The Preview/Prepare tabs show the printer you plan to use with the project you are editing. They are independent of the Device tab. You are not “looking at” a printer in those tabs.
The Device tab only shows the status of a printer.
Tying the two functions together would create a new problem in that you would have to go to a separate tab to change the printer before editing a project. Remember, changing printers can also change the available presets. You could not monitor a print while editing another project without continually changing printers - and their presets.
Studio does not read minds (yet), so you select the destination printer only after hitting Print/Send. That is a separate dialog, not part of Prepare/Preview. Give your printers distinct names so that you can easily tell them apart, the default names are too similar.
