Diagnosing bad print quality

I bought the printer in July and it worked flawlessly for 6 months. Now all of a sudden, I get prints that are coming out terribly, like in the pictures. Nothing has changed. Same filament as always too.

I have calibrated. I have reverted firmware as it happened after I installed the new one… but still no good.

Any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks

I would check the thermal paste on your nozzle. After a while it can dry out and this will cause problems with filament extruding.

If this isn’t the issue you might also look into how dry your filament is.

Thank you Jon, I will look. I don’t think the filament is the issue as I have a dehumidifier and just opened a new reel.

It looks like extrusion inconsistency to me. I think @JonRaymond is on the right track with it being related to your hotend.

How much printing have you done in the past 6 months? Your hotend/extruder may need a little maintenance. To me, it looks a partial clog in the hotend, or worn out extruder gears, or your hotend isn’t maintaining a stable temperature.

As a temporary fix, you could try bumping up the temperature you print your filament at by 10C to see if that helps stabilize the plastic flow.

very helpful thank you. I will explore!

"It could be a clogged nozzle; giving it thorough maintenance would help a lot.

I’m having the same issue and have tried the same calibration/firmware/filament drying remedies. Were you able to solve your issue with hotend maintenance, replacement or new extruder gears?

Thanks!

I had a similar problem - not as bad as the pictures above show!
It was indeed a problem with the extruder gears. I exchanged them with brand new gears and everything is back to top print quality!
