Same here about the fact of sending a text to the people that boosted me! I think there should be an implementation by Makerworld about a way of sending a like to people who boosts! I mean, everyone is saying that there is no repayment in boosting someone but at least we can say thank you! I sent 3 boosts and noone even Thanked me back.
Anyway I think That MW could have made better changes that could have saved them from excessive payment without penalizing designers that make a lot of efforts in uploading good models.
First of all: not allowing remixes or sharing from others sites
Second: permitting to download (and upload) only people that has been correctly verified…
Thanks for taking to time to make this list.
For science, I’ve decided to stick to the list I had posted and didn’t interact with MW further more on Sunday. And I didn’t receive any weekly boost.
So that’s very interesting, that means the threshold to get one is somewhere between your list and mine.
Why would remixes not allowed to be published on MW? I don’t see any benefits to that.
MW is a sharing platform not a marketplace. And if the license the original model allows sharing and modifications, MW can’t do much about that. Remixes would be published anyway under “original design” and that would become a big mess in no time IMHO.
Don’t get this wrong. I posted a couple of remixes when I was starting but then I saw that I was earning points and vouchers so i started posting models and sculptures I made from scratch. If it was just a sharing platform I wouldn’t have gotten a new printer in a month by posting my sculptures and models. I saw too many reposted models in which there was nothing remixed, but called “remixes” posted and posted again by dozens of people. Just Lazy stuff.
If the original designer is ok with that and you are making significant remixes is ok
That’s my thought. Doesn’t need to be right or wrong but it’s what I believe.
About this, It would be easy to avoid it by implementing a method like Thangs to make a image research in the internet for similar models. It’s called “3D-Native IP Protection”
Let’s talk clear Makerworld paid a lot and now they are trying to cut the costs. Why they should give away so many rewards and points for things that are already posted in Thingiverse or other sites for free and just shared?
This could help them to cut the costs and push designers to continuing posting good and original designs, going back to a similar reward system as before.
I agree that it would be a great idea to be able to thanks someone for giving a boost. A DM probably takes too long and may be annoying to the user, so a like or something may be enough.
But this is exactly what it is. They just gave big incentives for the launch of the platform to gain in popularity. And I think it worked pretty well ^^ but that doesn’t mean they won’t add a marketplace to it in the future like printables does it now. But like printables, the plateforme will remain a sharing platform in its core.
So yes I agree, indeed there are some remixes that are “lazy”. But it’s precisely because there were big incentives in play. Now things should calm down.
But that being said, I would leave MW if only standard digital file licensed model were allowed. What I love about 3d printing is its open-source roots and to be able to build / improve upon the work of others and share it back again to the community.
I have nothing against paid models in the contrary (I’m myself considering making some) but people should be able to choose on which license they want to publish their models.
An a side effect of those big incentives is indeed lazy remixes (like add a bbl logo on a popular model) but also people putting their models under standard digital files licences (which is normally used for commercial models) in fear of someone remix is model and that it reduce his “earnings”. That’s not healthy for the community either.
It’s just my thought too
That’s not so easy to do nor to implement though. That the core business of the company that own Thangs. And Thangs is “just” an application of thier technology of 3d models recongition.
haven’t printed out anything, got 2 boost tokens
You probably received those because your have a Bambi lab printer (2 boots / printer).
yeah I use a bbl p1s combo
I forgot to add. I received a single boost (not one from printer) on day system came in. I didn’t wait 7 days for first one.
I got a 1 boost this week, print many other things. I have also uploaded many models, have many complex models (games), got some boosts, but not what I was hoping for. Small prints are still rewarded, I don’t see the problem with the user, but with the MakerWorld system, models are offered on the homepage, if you’re not there, you’ve already lost. This should not exist, there should be a pure search function, then models are no longer favoured and you have a chance to be found via the search. Trending → Download and Like should not exist. That way, everyone has a chance.
Footwear per printer? I’m in.
Things like this, which you may think are good, were not only posted by me here in the forum a few weeks ago to make the site fairer and to largely prevent the bartering of downloads or other excessive downloading (bots) in order to increase the rewards. The way the system exists now, it is intentional: to give designers top positions, to select designers that you would like to keep on the platform and a few other things along these lines.
Other platforms also have similar functions that users are or were not enthusiastic about (printables), as they sometimes prevent (or could prevent) some users from progressing.
But you should get the chance to advertise your model, unfortunately they are out of every list after about 5 minutes. I have a lot of good things that cost me a lot of time, money and nerves. But I don’t get a chance to present them.
Yes, that’s what it looks like. I also built another model. Got up at 2am, built the model until 7am. And then there’s another 12 hours of printing (multi-colour printing). Then another 1 hour for hopefully decent photos.
The result: no visibility, no downloads.
