Mine will probably expire because I don’t know who to give it to. Everything I’ve printed so far from other users has had some kind of problem. Except Christmas trees, which was apparently created with an algorithm. But even there I had to help because the layout of the plates was terrible, which made the printing time too long.
A model from Bambulab would come into question to distribute a boost, but there was one thing I couldn’t print or glue there either. I had to change the model myself, but was not allowed to publish the change.
I’m currently thinking about completely different measures in which Makerworld plays a subordinate role.
But to answer the initial question: I haven’t received any new ones to distribute yet either. I’ll carry on as before and won’t increase my activities for something like this. My time is precious. Leider betrifft das dann auch die Aktivitäten hier im Forum. Bin ich erst einmal im Flow, habe ich dafür kaum noch Zeit. Ruhezeiten braucht der Mensch ja auch.
I haven’t received one either. I was wondering what it took to get that weekly token as well. The rules state “You can receive up to 1 Boost Token every 7 days”, but they don’t tell you how to earn that token.
Yes, due to the change in rewards I was not motivated to spend much time on the main website doing anything. I just printed something I needed. I answered 2 or 3 comments / ratings. Maybe that helped.
I received my first boost two days ago, two days after I received the first four (I have two printers). I have 5 to give out.
In that time I had uploaded a couple of models, a couple of profiles for other peoples designers, interacted with the forum, including a couple of replies and reported around a hundred users and profiles for spamming and rule breaking.
Whilst I have over 300 models of my own uploaded I choose categories others find less interesting and subsequently the number of downloads is low.
I have only received one boost so far. Whilst many people on the forum have suggested they are keeping their boosts to give to boutique designers, my findings seem to show a significant correlation between already very popular designers and them receiving many boosts.
The significant drop in points I have seen is weirdly not compensated for by the boost system which was the suggested promise by BL.
I’m not sure if any of that diatribe is useful for you.
Woaw your are super active on MW. 100 reports! Well done thank you for taking the time to doing this
Boutique designer ? That’s not even a thing yet and Boosts expire within for 2 weeks.
They never said that will compensate for the “lost” points. They just say that their budget was balanced between points and boots.
There probably way more user on MW than in the beginning and the budget allocated to the rewards is most probably staid the same. Which obviously means less 4 rewards per person.
But yes I agree, the boost don’t really benefits more complex or niche models. It’s just another way to reduce the overall rewards available on the platform.
At best it’s 44 points (4 boosts) per user per month, 572 points per year (52 weeks). So basically ± a 40€ gift card, that’s not a lot !
Plus this requires users to be “active” to get them. Boost are only valid for 2 weeks before expiring. You can only give 2 boosts per model, 5 boosts per designer/year.
So at the really best you can give 4$ to 10 designers over a year.
And of course they can change what “active” means at any time since no one knows exactly what it’s require to get one weekly boost.
This means someone that has chosen a small segment of ideas to focus one. For example someone who only prints small models that users can print rather than designing a variety of things that a wider audience might be interested in.
The problem is that the people on this forum are “power users” if you will, they certainly do not represent the vast, vast majority of casual users who look up two or three models through the app, print them and then disappear until the next time they need or want something.
Those users couldn’t care less about things like boosts. The system is too convoluted for the casual user to understand or care for. Look at how many questions it has generated here among the forum people, the people who already care about the BL ecosystem. Most people will view the boosts as sort of “super thanks” and will give it to designs that are already successful anyway. If they use the boosts at all, that is. I’m willing to bet at least 80% of all boosts will expire unused, and I’m also willing to bet that’s something BL has included in their calculations.
The system in it’s current form is kind of like communism. Perfect in theory and should give everyone an excellent quality of life, but in reality it will never work and has the exact opposite effect of what it was intended to do.
Same here. While I did receive a few boosts (I think it’s four by now), it does not make up for the drop in points. Not even close to it. And I really hate to sound like an entitled, whiny little dude, but it did rob all my motivation of continuing to participate here. My only reward at this point is basically user engagement, and that is actually great fun. However, the user base at other places are MUCH bigger, and I could get much more engagement there.
I like BL and I like Makerworld, and the only reason why I’m sticking around for now is because I understand they need time to analyze things so they can fine tune it, hopefully making this place one that goes back to rewarding actual designers while pushing back the spammers and scammers.

That’s the thing. Even with the little point reward for rating print profiles and uploading pictures just a minority of people do so. It’s the same as likes on some other platforms. As soon as a users has an option to not do so the majority won’t do. They just do what’s needed to print something, but won’t really care about using boosts, rating things or similar.
In this regard automatic systems are better than anything that requires user input, unless there will be an option to require boosts to be able to print them for semi paid prints.
This new ‘solution’ only serves to penalise those who give and doesn’t solve those who only take.
It wouldn’t be so bad if they were honest in their messaging, for example:
We have two problems: 1) those who game the system for the rewards and 2) those who are rewarded for quality work. We partially fixed the first and really went to town on the second.
I would respect that more.
None of the recent points reductions nor the ratio reductions are related to those who game the system.
I don’t contribute for an income, but, the massive reduction in points equates BL devaluing my contributions.
It’s always worth remembering that our contributions are valuable to BL as it sells their printers and promotes their company - the points were their cost of those sales & PR.
