Disable forced homing before moving axes

As the title implies, each time I want to move axes it wants me to home first.

99% of the time I want to manually move because some problem happened, power out, collision, giant plastic blob on the print head, whatsoever. So the last thing I want, is having the printhead and build plate move around during the homing process creating mayhem with whatever is one the build plate or stuck to the printer head.

How can I disable this homing check?

I agree, it’s ridiculous that they’d implement a required precautionary sequence that actually creates the type of situation you’d take precautions to avoid, and even more ridiculous to then provide the end user no means by which to disable it. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I don’t think there is.

You know what’s more ridiculous? You CAN STILL HIT THINGS AFTER HOMING, by simply pressing the buttons too fast!

It’s almost hilarious that they “tried”, but failed too hard and hilariously

LOL
True! And funny, too, that the whole homing process is just the print head bonking into stuff till it figures out where it is.

Yes! Coming from CNC, not having soft limits is just madness—it’s just a few lines of code. Unless you put your coffee cup under the bed, “bed down” will always be safe.

I would like to disable this feature also, but I haven’t found a way to do it. Currently, what I do is hit the button once, which will move the bed slightly and then I press cancel when it asks to home the print head. After I cancel it, I move it again. Yes, this process is arduous, but I haven’t found a way to disable the required homing feature, so until then, it is small steps at a time.

that’s actually ok because the homing is done by very slow movements, and it detects the current change in motors to prevent damage. however after homing you can still smash the bed or the toolhead into the frame which is just genius

they do have a soft limit, but, it doesn’t work properly when you click the buttons too fast.

funniest thing i’ve ever seen. even my creality has a better soft stop since it’s using klipper lol

They could still have the popup, but change it so that it says “we recommend homing first”, and then add an “ignore” button.

This also happens right after the print is done. That’s not just annoying thats a firmware bug. It just finished the print, it knows exactly the position of all axes. Why would it need to be homed again unless there’s loss of power or a collision :man_facepalming:

I completely agree. When away from the printer, I’ve wanted to raise the build plate up after a print completed just to take a look via the camera but can’t because of this. Frustrating.

I agree. I would also like to be able to de-energize the axes so I move X or Y with my hands. Most often this is to check pulleys for buildup and cleaning.

I was just checking on a print and from another room tried to turn on cam and light and move it to see how it did and had this issue. Then it homed anyway and I had it fail due to print still being on the bed. Hopefully no damage and it used the sensor to stop but if it had let me just move it there would have been no issue to begin with.

So I also say this should be an option to override when we especially know what we are doing without homing it.
