Disappearing from the 'Trending' list

Hi! I have encountered a very frustrating problem on MakerWorld. I uploaded a model yesterday which got 110 collects within 18 hours. Having seen similar starting numbers before, I expected this model to quickly rise to the top of the ‘Trending’ list of its category and perform very nicely there. 10 hours after uploading, I already saw it in like the top 40 sculpture models but when I checked again after 18 hours of uploading, it was nowhere. The numbers are frozen and its initial great momentum is basically dead by not being shown in the trending list. This is the second time I’m in this situation. Has anybody met such issue? Am I missing something? Maybe the model is being penalized for something? I uploaded it just like all my other models.

I’ve noticed a similar issue with my most recent upload. It’s getting the same amount of likes, collects and boosts but the download count is way, way lower in proportion (historically) to these stats. It could be because no one actually likes the model (it is kind of an insane model) lol, but it’s odd because it’s the first time there’s been so much of a disparity between downloads and likes.

edit: just did a little sleuthing and it seems the ratio of much higher likes vs downloads is happening to almost all models posted yesterday.

Yes.

It is happening more frequently.

In the past, if you managed to get on the list, you would usually have a run of 7 days.

That is no longer the case.

The longest I have managed recently was 6 days, most are far less.

It is either:

  • Increased numbers of people sharing, so less spots available
  • A change to the mechanism/algorithm
  • MakerWorld playing with us like little mice

Yeah, I know it’s harder than before to stay shown for long, but this is not what I was trying to point out. What I find strange is that my model was seemingly shooting out but then it got canceled by the algorithm.

That is what I was trying to say.

It doesn’t matter how well it shoots, they are pulling them before they would have previously tapered out on their own.

There is nothing natural about the current selection process, it doesn’t appear to follow trends, it all seems manipulated.

The trending page has been really odd recently. I uploaded a model in the Toys & Games category and noticed something odd. It was showing on the first page of the overall trending list, yet it was buried much further down on the Toys & Games trending page. It used to be that if a model ranked high on the overall trending page, it would also appear high on its corresponding category’s trending page, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

That’s not bad at all. It has been a long long long time since any of my models got into trending. I bet at least 95% of the creators are in the same boat with me.

So on behalf of the majority (full disclosure: no one asked me to speak for them  ), I would propose limiting the trending duration to 3 days at most so more models can have a chance to see the light of day.

front page uses the last 7 days while category pages use the last 30 days

ah, i missed that! that could definitely be a reason.
