Did everyone see this? Sunlu made a dryer that replaces the lid on the original AMS.
Man, que the sad trombone. It could have been great. Right now the AMS 2 Pro blows the S4 away and I’m pretty sure its the automatic vent in the 2 pro that makes the difference.
It’s a tough market segment as an AMS1 “upgrade” has to have all the features of the AMS2 but at a substantially lower cost. Otherwise the user can’t justify the purchase and will simply buy an AMS2. If this “upgrade” had launched before the AMS2 launched I think it would have sold better.
That’s true. I ordered the 2 Pro air inlet part so I could play around with it and see if I could make a homemade version for the S4 lol.
With it being an addon will it be endorsed by bambu ?
That’s a good question. They’ve been very selective doing official partnerships. Sunlu might end up on the “we wish you’d stop” list with BIQU.
I just changed the thread title to reflect multiple companies products.
This one seems to be better than the Sunlu feature-wise. It vents automatically and has separate chambers. About $185 USD for the price.
For the Sunlu, it is stated multiple times in the youtube videos that they received the beta version and some improvements may come before delivery. One most obvious is on the Sunlu site it shows it now includes a letterbox clear panel at the front so the spools can be visible which would have been a deal breaker for me. The manual vent is not a big deal but will it become automatic on the delivery version?
For both Sunlu or Eibos, I have one concern though is that they are square outside but aren’t curved inside (Sunlu at least has it curved on the front). When the spools are getting close to the end, they tend to jump and the AMS curved cover helps in keeping them rotating. With a square cover I will be concerned that nothing can control the spools jumping from the rollers at all. We may need to design a curved insert to add to the design eventually.
Eibos is nice but expensive for just being able to have 4 separate heaters which I’m not sure how well you would isolate a PLA spool next to a full heat drying filament next to it (although it’s limited to 65C)…
Not sure I would consider any of them compared to a AMS2 Pro (I need to sell my original AMS then…)
Sunlu cons: square case, manual vent, 500W!, cannot see the spools (for now)
Eibos cons: square case, 4 screens, miles of wirings, size (depth, heigth), price
So - Eibos seem to have heard people complain and now there’s an option for 2-chamber version called Dyas.
Price-wise, Eibos Dyas and Sunlu AMS Heater are on par with each other.
Feature-wise it seems that Eibos is a bit better (especially the automatic vent)
Eibos has the curve in the back in form of the heating unit itself.
Actually the tight curve in AMS isn’t great idea either as it can only “control” the jump of the rolls that are close to the AMS size. The better way imho are spool weights, filled with silica gel and/or other stuff that is harmless to the filament and gives just enough weight that the empty spool won’t jump around. I therefore don’t agree with ‘square case’ being the con.
Imho the cons are:
SUNLU: Manual vent, no separate zones.
EIBOS: Wiring below causes incompatibility with multiple AMS rises/flippers, complicated install.
That’s pretty much it.
Got an email from Sunlu today:
It’s time to upgraded your AMS! 5,000 AMS Heater Booked! Don’t Miss it!
They’ve pre-sold 5000 of these?
Possible. Looking at youtube there’s dozens high-view videos for sunlu ams heater unit. At the same time Eibos has couple but from smaller channels and less views… I wouldn’t be surprised of high numbers for both TBH. Loads of people have “old” AMSes in perfectly working condition and this upgrade seems like a good option.
