Dust from below

Has anyone looked at the device from below? It’s only a matter of time before dust collects there and causes malfunctions.
Does anyone know of a practical solution?

At one time there was a bottom cover you could print in pieces that fit together. That model does not appear to be available anymore. I had it in one of my collections and it is gone. I have the same concern.

Yeah, simple. Every time you do printer maintenance you also clean under as well. Problem solved.

Whatever you do, do not look under your dishwasher, refrigerator, clothes washer, clothes dryer, or automobile.

I’ve had my printer for almost two years now. It’s in my workshop, along with all my dust producing woodworking machines. I still have not had a problem.

Around here, dust falls DOWN, not UP.

That’s because you’re "down under "…

You’re right, these machines have moving parts that are exposed to the environment, too.
But they don’t have mechanics that needs to move in sub-millimeter steps.

Ok, accepted as second best solution.

As someone who has been inside of way too many PCs in the past and had to cough up mountains of dust, there is a very simple method for dust containment and mitigation:

(Click to reveal, your-eyes-only, classified information)

Don’t let the dust in the machine in the first place!!!

{Click Here} to reveal secret methods 😋--known only to the elites--😎, that are time-tested and work for PCs. And note that those things have fans whereas the bottom of the printer does not.
  • Keep the printer off the floor. Dust settles to the lowest parts.

  • Keep the product raised off the table with a small riser or laptop stand. Here’s one that I printed and have been using for 18 months now. Buildplate tray for P1P and X1 series - #24 by Olias

  • Keep the table dust-free.

These secrets have served me and my clients for decades and now I shared them with you.

Thanks for the link to the buildplate tray, this is an interesting project. :+1:
However, i feel that it might make the problem even worse since it creates more edges and corners where dust could collect.

I designed this to lift the printer off the table and make use of the space underneath.

No chance for dust to get in to the belts here…

Edit: Oh I see @Olias already linked the model via a forum post… Oh well, this is the direct link for easy acces…

I can assure you that this is opposite of what one might intuit. I also place my towers on vented monitor stands as the same principle applies. Dust falls it doesn’t necessarily rise. I used this stand primarily for build plate storage and only discovered after long usage that it also kept the underside dust free. That was a happy accident, it wasn’t the goal.

It’s not a short print BTW and has to be assembled. In all fairness, I have abandoned it as a plate storage solution in favor of something else but I kept the stand because it was so useful for keeping the underside dust free.

BTW: If you really feel as strongly about dust mitigation then check out the curated list of favorite Bambu X1/P1 dust cover solutions I put up on Printables. You could say that I am a little OCD about dust prevention. :joy: You wouldn’t know it looking at my desk though. :smirk:
